I am a 19 year old male suffering from rapid hair loss. I took Accutane from January 2013 to June 2013. Noticed hair loss sometime around that June, and it has been rapidly falling out ever since. Hairline has drastically receded as you can see from the pictures. Last time I went to a dermatologist, she claimed that it was just Telogen Effluvium and it was only temporary. At first I believed her, but now I am almost certain that it is male pattern baldness. What should I do in this situation? Should I try and see if another doctor will prescribe Finasteride?

Thanks in advance,

Bluejar

It thinned out the area, but it didn't move the hair line back. It was probably caused by Accutane.

I am still losing well over 100 or 200 a day. I believe it is permanent because I dont see anything growing in its place. Also, the hairline definitely went back in the front.

Hello,

What am I supposed to do in this situation? I still have not seen a dermatologist.

You should see a dermatologist. We can't say what's the real cause.

My male pattern baldness started a month after I started accutane. My skin, scalp and lips were little dry. I was 3 months 40mg/day and I'm now fine even after 6 months later. My forehead has some small zits but you can't see them, only feel if you run your finger over it.

I like to blame accutane for my receding hairline:salut:

are your hairs near the ears kinky or like beard in texture? if that's the case, you might have apkh... which induces male pattern baldness.

Can you give another adjective to describe that?

And like I said, I went to dermatologist several months ago and she said that it was caused by accutane and would take at most a couple years to start regrowing. I personally think that is bull. Should I see another doctor?
