Hi guys first of all ty beforehand to those who reply and help me out with advice, I’ve seen a lot of previous threads and all the people here seem very supportive. I’ve had good hair pretty much all my life but last month I noticed my hair was very thin at the top of my head and on the crown. If I stand below a light you can see right through to my scalp in the front and crown. My father is from a family of 12, whom which none experience balding (female or male) my father’s 56 and he has no baldness whatsoever, my oldest uncle is in his 70s and same there. My mom’s side though...his brother started going bald at 20 (I’m 19) and he is v bald today in his 30s. I look identical to my father and have his same hair and temples and everything, is it possible I may have just gotten my maternal uncle’s balding gene? When I put my hand on my head I can definitely feel less hair and quite thinner at the top, and when its wet my hairs look very thin and fragile. Here are a few pictures of when it’s wet. Bear in mind, I just started to notice this about two months ago, but give me your completley honest opinion of what you think is happening and what can i do to stop the thinning and loss of hair, thanks.

I am not the expert on treatment . Chances are your going to bald like your brother has. You could try to slow it down but I think it’s part of becoming a masculine man . Talking and showing your progression helps in becoming comfortable with your baldness

Wet hair is not good indicator of balding because hair clumps together. I am not entirely sure in ur case, it could be teh start of balding. Monitor it and maybe see a dermatologist.

I'm not entirely sure but one thing you can do is compare your hair now to how it used to be a year, two, three or even 4 years ago. That's usually a good indicator. Also it could be that your hair is thin/fine so it looks like you're balding when you're not.
The thing that makes me suspicious about this being hairloss is that even the hair in the back of your head follows the same thin pattern as the other hairs which may confirm my theory that this is just a thin hair issue.
If you really want to make sure, visit a dermatologist or at least ask your barber and see what they say.
Good luck

I think you are balding. I’d bet money on it tbh. Classic diffuse thinning like me.

If I were you I’d get on finasteride. It may work very well for you.

Does anyone notice your thinning hair?

Went to different dermatologists, they all said the same thing...I’m balding at 19! :)) got a prescription for finasteride and I’m gonna hop on it asap since my temples have already receded a bit. Kinda sucks but oh well I’ve embraced it and now I’m making lifestyle changes including fitness to boost my morale a little. But I think the little receded hairlines look kind of cool actually lmao, make me look more masculine

At first I noticed a little spot on the front of my hairline but I made nothing of it. But after a month or two my mother started telling me I had little hair when I was always the one with a lot of hair. Then it became more obvious when I showered and started to gradually see a few more thin hairs fall out than usuall. I went to a hair specialist because my father insisted and he gave me Viviscal Pro but I had already done my research and knew that a supplement won’t fix anything, it’s basically like changing your diet. So got finasteride prescription and hopefully will start sometime this week.

How long did you wait to get on finasteride? I checked some photos and the first day I noticed the spot on my hairline where my hair was thinning was in August...7 months ago. Since then my temples have recedeed a bit, especially in the last month in f**king receded fast af. I’m not that worried because I’m entering NW2 at the moment, my friends dont even notice the recession so i guess thats good, but I notice it and its going very fast.

Also, how long does it take for it to take effect? If I take it today will I have the same hairs I have on my head right now? Or will my temples receed a bit more whilst it takes effect?

Cheers and thank you for posting

I don’t think the back of your hair is a concern, despite the front not looking good. When hair is wet it clumps together. I don’t have hairloss, but here’s my hair when drenched for Reference https://imgur.com/a/L5OOwMn - the back and crown area is gonna look like that regardless unless your hair is abnormally thick

Lol that’s what I used to think about my receding hairline. Call me crazy but I used to love my NW2. I thought I made me look more mature.
Now I’m NW3. Hating it..

it receded from 7 months? then why the heck you wrote vote like
"its nothing dont worry about it"
i have same problem, spotted it 6 months back. then compared pic of 2 year back and spotted low density on top in that pic. after 6 months, hairs are not even receding, so i'm waiting whether it recede on hairline because its Androgenetic Alopecia or its just Telogen Effluvium and it grows back
