Hi,

I posted around a year ago saying how i was worried that i might be losing hair. I now know i am.
I had been using minoxodil and nizoral for about 5 months before I went to one of the best dermatologists in the UK. We did all the blood tests etc.
We worked out that i DONT have male pattern baldness as my DHT levels are really low (actually below normal i think).
The pull test showed 13% of my hair on the back (where its impossible to have male pattern baldness) is in telogen phase and 10% is on the top. But im thinning on the top.
The blood test showed i was quite low in iron and on the lower end of the zinc scale so am now taking supplements for that and i am going to see him again in a few months for a check up.

Im currently experiencing a massive shed. I stopped the minoxidil when i was told i didn't have male pattern baldness so am hoping its from that but the hairs range from miniaturised ones to thick ones so i am quite confused.

Im basically posting this to see if any one has any comments about what im going through/what i might have.

I'd also like to know if anyone has any suggestions for things that i could do to make my hair look better like diet and products. I've bought the loreal fibrology shampoo but dont know if thats any good.

Thanks

does the DHT level necessarily matter, perse? Is MBP characterized by higher DHT levels, or higher sensitivity to it?

Higher sensitivity to it. Some people can have low dht but be incredibly sensitive to it = bald. Others can have high dht but not sensitive it = not bald.

After you stop minoxidil you get mother of all sheds. That was really scary when it happened to me cuz I wasn't aware that it happens

my dht is 22 on a range of 18-72 and I have only seen maybe one person with more aggressive loss than me. I am only 19. It doesn't matter that your serum dht is low you can still have male pattern baldness either of normal or extreme aggression

Forgive me if im wrong but dosen't the fact that only 10% of the hair on the top of my head is in shedding phase mean it can't be male pattern baldness?
