Hi everyone,

I am 18 and have a very noticeable receding hairline. It's really tough dealing with this at such a young age. My dad is 49 and has lost a lot of hair and is pretty much bald on the top of his head, but in his early 30's he only had a receding hairline, what I have now at 18! I'm not sure if he had a receding hairline at 18. I wouldn't mind being bald at 48 or even 40 because by then I would hopefully be married with a family, but at 18 I just cant cope with the thought that I'll be bald by 25! I also wouldn't mind living with what I have now, it's not horrible because I can cover it up with the way I style my hair and when I brush it, it makes me look a bit older and smarter, but again what really worries me is that if I look like this now at 18, what will like look like at 25!?

For a little while I thought this was just the shape of my hairline (that it wasn't receding) because I remember in 6th grade a kid making a comment about how I have a bald spot where my hair is receding now. So I figured if it was like that that early, it was going to stay that way. Wishful think at 17 I guess. It's only been until recently when this has really started to bother me and keep me up at night. I have a few questions:

What are my viable treatment options? Do hair restorations actually work? I've read a lot of stories where people have spent more and more money only making their hair worse.

Is it possible to stop this from receding?

Is it possible that this receding hairline will stop on its own, or if its reached this point there is absolutely no doubt I will eventually be bald? Reason I ask is because I don't think my grandfather ever had a bald spot in the back of his head, but he did have a receding hairline, or a widows peak.

Being honest, if my hairline is receding, when do you think I'll start balding? 25?

Do you think factors other than male pattern baldness could have caused this?

I guess my next step should be talking to my parents and seeing a doctor about it.

Thanks for your help

Your pics are not very clear and you're still too young for finasteride. Try minoxidil and nizoral and see how they work. Good luck!
