Im only 18 and have notcied thinning on the top of my head. Pretty much my entire family has nice and think hair with the exception of one uncle. I saw the doctor today but all he said was that i had male pattern baldness and the only i could do is start treatments. Im gonna start 5% minoxidol and possibly start propecia in the future. Thanks for any advice!!! The picture kind of makes it look worse than it really is and its under good lighting and with flash on, but it is still somewhat noticable and i need to put a stop to this and hopefully regrow some hair.

Its not a great pic, but you can tell your hair is not healthy looking, it looks quite whispy and sick looking which is one of the tell tale signs of minturization, because it just does not grow as long. So just ignore those bafoons above me. If your hair was black, therefore making you scalp to skin contrast alot more extreme your hairloss would look a lot more serious, bit since its blonde its harder to see.

My advice is to get on Propecia for one year first, then re-access your situation because if you get on both straight away it can be quite a shock to the system and many people on this board have experienced massive sheds from which they dont recover doing this. Sooooo propecia for one year. Leave the Roagine foam up your sleeve for later. Kinda like a trump card, trust me you will need it. Dont use all your cards now.

Uhh....there is a big f*cking flash bulb going off 4 inches from your head.

Go outside and take a picture in the sun. Show us your hairloss then.

So you think i should just be on Propecia alone? And leave the rogaine for later??

start with propecia, that will stop and hopefully reverse some of your male pattern baldness, rogain will regrow hair, but it's not your MBP hair that it regrows, and you have to apply it every day to keep the regain hair, vs just popping a pill

Definitely man! Don't start both treatments at once. It can be hair suicide. Start with Propecia, then add the Rogaine Foam if things arnt going as well as you would of liked (minimum 6 months down the track). Keep the Foam up your sleeve for later, you will definitely need it. As the guy above me says popping a pill is a hell of a lot easier than applying foam, which makes your hair look like crap, you stink and you have to keep up x2 day applications or ur just wasting your time. Forget about whatever negative comments people are making about Propecia sides effects. In reality VERY few people actually get them. Even if you do, its hardly life threatening.

Good luck!

I am really concerned with the ease that some people "prescribe" anti-androgenic medication to people that have just turned 18.

Bubka just the fact that you had great success with finasteride without any sides at all, doesnt mean that propecia is as safe as panadol.

bdt151: Your hair loss is minimum if it exists at all. Your hair do look A BIT thin under such bright light, but there are many other factors that can trick the final appearence.

Take a breath and relax. There are good treatments available that do work for many people.

What i would suggest is that you wait a while and reassess your condition in 6 months. Take some more photos in different angles and lighting and do that again in 6 months. If you see that things are getting worse, then you could start treatments.

he just had a medical doctor diagnose him with male pattern baldness

propecia is for adults 18+

he either starts now, or stars later, with less hair... those our the only options

Ask your Doctor to give you a prescription for proscar (cheaper). You won't regret starting sooner.
