Hello everyone, I am 18 years old and have had thick hair for as long as I can remember. I have started to grow my hair a little longer than usual. I typically keep it medium length (a basic undercut) and haven't grown it long in years. I recently started growing it longer, and noticed more and more hairs falling out in the shower to the point where it got me a little worried. So I have been checking my hair for the past couple of weeks and it looks to me that my hair is thinning, you guys know the best so I came here to ask. Am I just over paranoid or should I be concerned? My parents told me that I'm just paranoid and that the pictures in the album I provided are normal. I have a dermatologist appointment on Friday just to be safe, because I'd rather nip this in the bud now than be bald in the future.

Thanks, and any advice is welcome.

Looks like you have thinned in the temples. No way to tell if will stop there or progress. Any male pattern baldness in your family? If so how does their hair loss look?

No male pattern baldness in the family from what I know of. Receding at the temples is pretty common in my family however, my grandfather is almost 80 years old and still has hair on his head. I'm not entirely sure if it is male pattern baldness, but the thinning worries me a little.

I am sorry to say this, but your wicked looking hair is leaving you...
However, you can try saving it.
Finasteride, minoxidil, nizoral shampoo. You could try finasteride and nizoral only.

No need to see dermatologists, they are a waste of time. Most probably will tell you that you are fine.
Go see a trihologist or hair transplant doctor if you need a confirmation.
Best of luck.

I might be wrong, but that is why youneed to see a doctor. Not a dermatologist, I visited one, she told me Im perfectly fine. But I have male pattern baldness.

You seem a little drastic like I am lol, I'm not entirely sure if I am looking to get a hair transplant so soon in my life. I'll definitely see a doctor and see what they say. I do agree that the dermatologist was not much of a help and didn't seem like he knew what he was talking about. I have had some bad acne in the past and he recommended me biotin which apparently causes acne.

Best of luck, hope its just maturing hairline. ;D

I didn't say you should see a Hair Transplant doctor to do a transplant. It is just that their eye can easily tell you if you're balding or not.

You are NW2 now progressing towards NW3....Start treatment as soon as you can to keep this hairloss....Actually it can be a NW2 vertex also as I can see a bald spot on the vertex,I cant see it properly though due to your long hair....If you can remove the hair from the vertex & take a snapshot then it can be helpful in diagnosing your male pattern baldness....

yeah dude... I also think its more than just maturing hairline. sorry.

but don't take it too hard, there are treatments and it seems science is about to find a real cure, just few more years.
I believe that you may have better hair by that time than what you have now with treatments.

I just consulted my dermatologist and he said there are no signs of male pattern baldness actually. I did cut my hair and surprisingly those temple areas do look a little better. Still thin in those areas but not as dramatic. I honestly don't know what to believe anymore, I'll see if I can talk to my doctor tomorrow but with my haircut the hair looks a lot better than when it did in those pictures. It's really confusing having a professional tell you there is absolutely nothing wrong and you guys tell me different, I do appreciate all of your opinions though.

Also, my doctor said that it appears to be Alopecia and that with most people my age the hair will grow back in a few months (he also mentioned stress, which I have been a lot recently). Very confusing, and I don't really want to start medicine because I know it gets worse before it gets better. I can sorta deal with thinning temples as long as that's it.

Actually dermatologists misdiagnose male pattern baldness very often, even it happened to me also....Consult a hair transplant surgeon,he is the best guy to tell....
I doubt the ability of a dermatologist to treat a male pattern baldness case, they will often talk nonsense about male pattern baldness.Even one dermatologist adviced me against finasteride...

How and where can I talk to a hair transplant surgeon? I would have no idea where to even start, I don't have my own transportation either. Would it be something I could possibly e-mail or send into them?
