Hey everyone,
A few of you may remember me, some of you probably wont. But I'm back here for an update and more of an advice thread. Since about October '14 my hair has been thinning and have pretty much been going crazy on what to do with my stupid head of hair. I have now seen 5 doctors, 2 dermatologists (Rated best dermatologist in Orlando,FL and the other rated one of the best in Brevard County Florida). I have driven over 70 miles just to see a doctor for this, I've seen my regular primary care doctor, and 2 immunologists in the past 5 months. Each and every single one of them has completely ruled out male pattern baldness, they have looked through my hair, they have done everything you can think of to look at my hair. Every doctor has told me the exact same thing, you're going through a mature hair stage. A couple have said my hair will grow back, and it is just from stress. Not one doctor has recommended propecia, the dermatologist said I can use Rogaine, but he didn't recommend it because I was so young, he said to just wait it out. I'm going into my 6th month now, I'm currently taking Saw Palmetto and that's about it. I'm literally going insane, I have over 5 professionals telling me there is nothing wrong with my hair, yet there obviously is something wrong with my hair.
Here is the thing, in the past I had an auto-immune condition called autoimmune hemolytic anemia, this is a blood disorder that attacks the white blood cells in your body (I think, I was very little when this happened). I have hair loss pretty much all over my body at this point, hair, pubic, and some eyelashes and eyebrows. I even messaged my old doctor when I was a baby (one of the best immunologists in Florida) what she thought about this, and she said it is most likely alopecia areata. I'm not receeding, I don't have a bald spot on my crown, which leads me to believe that maybe this isn't male pattern baldness. I'm honestly more confused than I have ever been, and I have never been more stressed about something in my entire life.
Just 6 months ago I had the most beautiful head of hair, I had the thickest italian hair you would ever find. I was on a medicine called tretinoin, I thought maybe that was causing my hair loss, and although the hair loss has slowed down since stopping the medicine I don't think that was it. Is it a food allergy? I'm lactose intolerant and typically eat a lot of dairy products even though I'm not supposed to. This is honestly driving me insane, and I just want an answer. I'm kinda leaning towards this might have something to do with my anemia, but not entirely sure as of yet. I'm seeing an immunologist soon, and going to see what she has to say about this. In the mean time if anyone has any advice to give me that would be great.
Thanks.
