18 months on Rogaine? To continue, stop, and/or add something new?

I have been on Rogaine for a year and a half now. I have definitely seen some noticeable regrowth of short villus hairs around the hairline but in all honesty not much else. In fact I think it may have pushed my original hair line back a bit. So while I have these villus hairs growing in making my line lower it seemed to have pushed my original hair line back (or it might have just receded naturally, it was kind of thin to begin with).

I was wondering if I should continue Rogaine, stop it, and/or start something new or add something new? Based on the future prospects I'd like to make a call on that. I just bought another three month supply, but after this I think it'd be good to make a call. I also take .5 mg of finasteride for 2 days, and on the third day I take 1 mg.

Thanks

It has not made much for you about regrowth... but what about maintaining?... yes, you have recede a little bit, but it could be that without minoxidil, you would have recede even further... I don't think you can stop minoxidil. You may try it, but you will get back on it, even if right now you think it is not helping you. I have seen it a lot of times on other guys. They say minoxidil is doing nothing for them, not even maintaining, and when they stop they are always in for a big surprise...

second that.....like you, I wanted to quit it cold turkey a few months back but got scared and reduced application from twice a day to once a day instead...Good luck!

talmoode, how did the reduced application go? Any changes at all? I also think it wouldn;t be a good idea to stop cold turkey but reducing may be an option.

hi nyhair19! I was shedding like crazy last year and it seemed like minoxidil made worse..that's why I wanted to stop cold turkey...but anyway I am glad that I didn't.......
I guess it hasn't made any difference? I have read somewhere else that it is recommended to use it twice a day in the first year for regrowth but after that, you can use it once a day for maintaining.....also you could always go back to the twice-a-day applicaiton if you think once-a-day applicaion was not quite enough?!!..have you considered using propecia by the way?

I actually have been on propecia for 2.5 years. I think I will try the once a day application to see how that works. Like there are little hairs growing in, but the hairline has definitely moved back slightly and I am not sure if these little hairs will ever become terminal :(

hi nyhair19!! have you been taking pictures every month for comparison purpose? when my hair feels and looks like crap, I take pictures and compare them with old pictures. that will confirm if your fear is all in your head or not!! So do take pictures!!

About finasteride dosage, I didn't notice any significant difference between 0.5mg and 1mg a day! but I thought there should be a reason why 1mg is recommened by doctors so I am back on 1 mg now!!
