18/m Weird Thinner Area Around My Hairline?

You have the curse of fine hair like I do too.. Makes it even worse when you are balding! I I don't think you are losing your hair but a good thickening shampoo will do you wonders, I use one and my hair goes from limp and lifeless to somewhat thick and buoyant

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it. I've never really put much thought into the brand of shampoo that I buy etc.

Could it be some kind of damage that I did as a kid or do you think I was just born with it?

Yea, just looks like naturally fine hair to me. Your hair looks greasy which doesn't help. You should try switching shampoos too.
