Hi i'm Tim, 17 years old(18 in 2 months).
Over the last few months i've noticed i have quite a bad receding hair line. I have quite long hair so haven't really ever looked before.
But i noticed it quite badly after looking a picture taken on a roller coaster where my hair had gone back from the speed of the ride.

Balding seems to run in my mums side of the family, my uncle had very bad balding by the time he was 25.
However my dads side is fine, he is 54 and has quite good hair i think.
I would say my hairline is already worse than his so i must be getting it from my mums side :(

I'm going to keep an eye on it and see if it gets worse.
I've been looking into a few treatments incase it does, i don't want to go bald so young.

I have a few questions:

From what i've learnt Finasteride is the most affective thing to take, is that true?
How old do I have to be before I can take that?
Also what side effects are there and are they common?
Is there any risks taking it so young?

I just want to prevent it from getting worse; don't want to leave it too late.

Thanks,
Tim

Finasteride is given to men when they are 18!
There are various side effects that can appear, such as loss of sex drive, weight gain or brain fog.
Though everybody is different.

Don´t lose any time, your story sounds very bad and you will definetly regret it, when you don´t start now!!!

Yes, I wish I started at 17, saying that it would probably be a good idea to ride it out a year or so to see where it goes before starting treatment. Just dont let it get to the stage like i did at 21 where you are on the verge of no hope.
