I'm 17 and I'm balding and have been for about a year. My uncle on my dads side is balding and my mums dad started balding in his early 50s,but no one else that I know of. I have a derm appointment on Tuesday, but I'm not too hopeful. Should I be taking finasteride this young? Will minoxidil and nizoral "bandaid" my hair loss until I'm a bit older and could consider finasteride?

if you need some pics, check out my second latest thread.

Thanks.

dont take finasteride yet. im 18 and the only reason im taking it is cause my body is mature for my age. (beard, body hair, voice, muscles etc.

start minoxidil asap, and get back to thinking about taking finasteride when youre at least 18

I think minoxidil and 2% Nizoral are excellent options for providing a "band-aid" for your hair loss right now. In fact, you can continue using those for the rest of your life to slow down hair loss and possibly regrow hair.

I recommend that you do not take finasteride until you are at least 18 to be safe, to avoid interference with puberty. If you feel finasteride is needed once you turn 18, then perhaps you can test it out.

Note that whenever you decide to use any treatment, it is important that you use it correctly, in the correct dosage, and consistently and indefinitely to experience results.
