17 Years Old And Worried About My Hair.

I'm 17 years old and I'm totally freaking out over the thought of losing my hair. My crown has always had quite a big parting. My roots are a lot lighter than my ends too.

Lately I've had little clumps of hair coming out at the nape of the neck and around the ears, a little bit of the thin hairs at the sides but not really anywhere else. It sort of comes out when I pull at it slightly. I have been undergoing a lot of stress due to leaving school and starting college too.

I do dye my hair every couple of months, and I've always had quite a high hairline/large forehead. I suffer from relatively high anxiety and recently been put on antidepressants, in case it's all in my head and not on it. My hair is the only thing I like about myself and the thought of losing it scares me.

You can see that there's a thick line of short hairs around the hairline I think I can see some tiny growth in the thinner areas of my head, which may be a good sign. A hairdressing student I know has recommended me some treatments to thicken and repair my hair as she thinks that it's colour damage.

As for my heritage I remember quite little about my dad, as he died when I was younger when he was about 60, but I remember him having most of his hair, and it was quite thick, short and wiry. My mums father is mostly bald and he's around 80.

Looks to me like male pattern baldness in an early stage. That's where mine was when I was 17-18. FYI I didn't start losing the crown until I hit 38. So plenty of time to go with if you don't over indulge in booze / smokes / sugar.

OP you have Male Pattern Baldness, diagnosis is possible through the pictures you provided. I recommend to make an appointment to see your GP and find out if you can start Finasteride at your age, you may be OK by now.

It looks like there's some minor thinning there. But the really good news is that you caught this very, very early, and with help from a dermatologist (who will likely prescribe Finasteride) you can preserve the full head of hair you have now and likely see growth in the areas that are a little thinner than the rest.
