I think the best thing to do would be to go to a dermatologist and make sure that you are experiencing male pattern baldness. If the Dr. says that you are then you can discuss treatment options.

IMO, since you can see the scalp pretty clearly, it is thinning and thus Androgenetic Alopecia.
When I or my brothers had short hair, you could not see that much scalp, you only saw a little and the hair shafts were thick. You're very young as well.
But don't be sad, you're quick to notice. Discuss treatment options with your dermatologist. Good luck.
