Hello everyone, im a 17 year old suffering hair-loss. I noticed last year my temples where going back and now the whole thing is moving back. (my hair used to be near the top crease of my forehead),
I'm okay with accepting it when im abit older but at 17 its ridiculous and it really gets me down sometimes. *** you can see attached there are allot of baby hairs around my hairline which probably means more receding especially in the temples. Will minoxydll regain my hairline or atleast halt its receding? My only concern is if i try it and it has no results then my hairline will be minoxydl dependent and fall out if i stop using it. Would really appreciate any help, thankyou. Also, are there any other plans of action you can recomend for helping my situation? :)

The only solution is finasteride, you have an aggressive case considering your age. Most people would recommend waiting until you're 19 or 20 before trying finasteride since it inhibits DHT which is responsible for development of secondary sex characteristics, but in your case I wouldn't wait, I'd see a specialist right away and get on finasteride. If you've yet to fully develop it may cause issues, but if you're fully developed and have a lot of body hair then I'd say get on finasteride asap.

I'm going to agree with goldenmane, as dangerous as it might be actually getting on finasteride at your age might so you a lot of good. Though firstly you have to ask yourself or perhaps go to a doctor to see if you're fully developed. finasteride is the closest thing we have to a cure, too bad many experience sides from it.

Thanks guys, is there anywhere you can suggest to purchase finasteride as i have looked around and it seems damn expensive haha, well for me anyway with a part time job.

Buy generic proscar on inhousepharmacy (Fincar), cut it in fourths, it'll cost less than 100$ a year.

In my opinion, I don't think you should hop on finasteride. The chances of sides might be low, but why potentially live with low limbido and erection problems at such a young age for the rest of your life when you could just use minoxidil? NW2 is not considered to be balding and it looks like your hairline is merely forming a mature hairline. Unless your dad, maternal/paternal grandfather went bald at such a young age your chances of actually balding are VERY low.

I recently just turned 21 and I have a receeding hairline, but I was still a little hesitant to get on finasteride. I started using finasteride a little over a month ago. I wasn't worried about sides, I was worried about the importance of DHT for a developing young man, like yourself. There is no real definite answer to how important DHT really is after you are fully developed, but there are studies that show DHT is important for those aren't fully developed. Sometimes young men don't become fully developed until the age of 25. So, if I were you, I would do some research and talk to your doctor and dermatologist. For some people, starting finasteride at the age of 18 is fine. It depends on the individual. Good luck

I dont think thats a mature hairline, his frontal forelock seems to be thinning as well. The age at which your relatives started balding is not actually a strong indicator of when it will happen to you. As long as the gene is there male pattern baldness can strike at any time. My dad's nw3 at 54 and with males in my family mostly nw1, I first noticed my hairloss at 18 (which means it probably started at around 17). To the OP, yes it sucks hard to even have to worry about this crap at such a young age. No meds are a guarantee but the suggested course of action is minoxidil and finasteride. If you are mostly developed, finasteride should not be a problem.

I just learned about this in my college genetics class-the genes for male pattern baldness are usually turned on around the same age your ancestors had it turned on. It's a not a single gene. Again the chances of you balding at such a young age if your ancestors genes did not initiate the true balding process until they were older are very very slim. Good to have some optimism in life.

It dosen't matter what the chances are or what "should be" when his pics show clear recession and thinning past exceeding that of a mature hairline. Optimism does not equal ignorance or denial. He can be optimistic about this by being proactive, getting treatment and hoping they will work.

Thanks guys, yeah i considered my hairline just moving to a mature one early on...but its went back allot and i have plenty of baby hairs on my hairline suggesting its going to continue to go back. It's kind of destroying for my confidence and stresses me more than i feel a teenager should be. (Also my mother's father lost all of his hair by mid 20's and every other male on both sides of my family went bald by 30-40). I honestly don't mind going bald when im older (mid to late 20's) but i just hate looking like this at 17 and shaving my head at this age would look extremely strange :/
