17.. and going bald? [Pics]

Hi all, so first of all my hair has always been incredibly thin and fine, although recently I have become very worried of a potential hairloss problems. Can you guys tell me what you think of my hair and whether you think I have a 'mature hairline' or early signs of male pattern baldness.. When I was younger my temple hair was blonde as opposed to my brown hair, not sure if that means anything but here are some pics..



I didn't think it was too bad but taking these photos made me even more paranoid.. any input would be appreciated thanks.

Here is one more image of the top of my head.. Since my hair is extremely straight and fine I am hoping the apparent bald spot is just from the way my hair parts.. or maybe I am just in huge denial Any input would b e appreciated ASAP!

sorry brother - definitely male pattern baldness. very similar hairloss + rate to how mine's been. jump on the big 3... finasteride'll keep it and maybe regrow a bit (did for me), nizoral does a little bit of reducing itching and supposedly maintaining and minoxidil does a lot of regrowing. i'm only on finasteride and nizoral right now but am going to get on min real soon. good luck brother

Not sure I'd recommend a 17 year old to jump on finasteride just like that... It does look like possible early signs of hair loss though. Many people without male pattern baldness have a crown like that but your hairline does look receded.

at least look into rogaine and nizoral

Man, I never thought I would bald at a young age, this is so destroying.

Well if thats true then that really sucks.. I havn't even noticed it until about a week ago

I highly doubt I will be willing to try Propecia, I am not willing to risk the negatives, especially at a young age

If its going very slow waiting and just watching it is also an option. Its not the end of the world to do just wait and see how it goes. The treatments we have are nothing astounding and I think there is enough risk with propecia to justify waiting on it. In 5 or so years I have hope CB or a safe proven topical will replace propecia so if you can wait for 5 years you can avoid propecia. Propecia is very safe and has long history with many guys on it for 15+ years so being on it for the next 5 or so is probably fine.

Well your hairline has definitely experienced recession, I wouldn't worry about the crown; it still looks thick. At 17 I would stay the **** away from propecia, try something mild like Nizoral shampoo and see if the hairloss slows down.

Yes, Finasteride wouldn't be a good idea for a 17 year old. You have quite bit of miniaturization around the hairline, but your hair, overall, seems thick. Keep an eye on it, if it progresses, you could try Minoxidil, and right now, you should buy 2% nizoral, use it 3 times a week, before I started finasteride, I felt that nizoral helped my thinning quite a bit, although I'm one that would def endorse it, there are people that think it's useless trash.

I honestly cannot quite remember, I do think I had a fairly straight hairline though.. I don't have any images of my hair pulled back

I think you are in the beginning stages of male pattern baldness. Sorry man, but take it from someone who also went through this at 17/18, it isn't the end of the world. I started noticing my hair loss at 18, due to having long hair and tying it back. All I used for the first two years was Nizoral and luckily my hair loss never progressed at a fast enough rate for it to become a problem for me until 21. Even then, cutting my hair short and styling it differently made a big difference. I'm 23 now and have been on finasteride for about a year and no one knows I'm losing my hair but me.

You may be the same way. It's too early to tell, but I was SURE I would be slick bald by the age I am now. Keep watching it but try not to grow obsessive. I guarantee you that no one else notices. Take some new pictures in 6-8 months and update your post.

*Edit* I agree with the above poster. Your crown is just fine. Subtle miniaturization at the temples and nothing else.

Just use nizoral and try to keep your hair clean as much as possible, when youl reach at least 18 and a half jump on finasteride

Finasteride honestly would be a great idea. You'd be able to keep all of ur hair basically if you start it early enough imo

Saw Palmetto would be a good sub for finasteride. It worked well when I was young.

yea man classic male pattern baldness, early stages though. But considering you're only 17 you might have some severe balding in your future. On the other hand, meds will probably help you keep a decent head of hair until something new comes out, maybe even a cure for baldness.

Problem is if it works it works by reducing DHT so would have the same potential sides as finasteride.
