Hi, i am 17, male, and have been experiencing sudden hair loss all over the scalp the last few weeks, the fallen hairs are thinner than other hairs and about 2-3 inches long (the same as the rest of my hair). Recently i have been diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency and have started to take medication (my levels were low) Is it likely this is the reason? could it be Telogen Effluvian?
My main question is should fallen hairs be thinner than my regular hairs in the narutal hair cycle?
Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

The way you say the hair falling out is thinner suggests it could be miniaturization, but at 17 that is quite young but there are cases of very young people starting male pattern baldness. Maybe post some pics of your hair?

Vit D deficiency can definitely cause Telogen Effluvium, as can a lot of vit deficiencies.

To answer your main question, yes and no, you should have very little % of thin hair fall and thats mostly from early breakage, hair should realistically only fall out at the end of its life cycle which can be 2-5 years where its undergone anagen and thickened up. If you notice that the hair fall particularly from the front of your head is alot thinner then the hair at the back of your head, then that might be a problem.

You should post pictures. Might be a side effect of the medication.
