I'm 17 1/2 , 18 in August. I've just took my second daily 0.5 dose of finasteride. I've read about all of the possible side effects, I just want to know am I making a bad decision here? I feel like finasteride is my last option as I have receded quite a lot.

there is a bit of controversy on this. Some will say it's fine. I personally think you should wait a couple years until all your systems are fully developed. Maybe start with 2% minoxidil?

I had considered minoxidil, but this may sound silly, but I really get confused with it, I see so many different products, And when I search minoxidil in Google, it comes up with numerous different products lol

The increase in estrogen may close your epiphyseal plates and hinder beard developement but thats about it.

Also, if I do stick with finasteride for a while, is there some sign that it is effecting me negatively, I mean other than not being able to get erections. I'm not gonna lie, I'm not sexually active, so a limp dick at the moment is not a big concern.

Hey i'm 17 and I've been taking finasteride since a month after my 17th birthday. My beard does seem like it's developing really slowly, and sometimes my dick doesn't get as hard as usual. But it is stopping my hair loss i'm pretty sure.

You can upregulate the adrogen receptors in your scalp and cause quicker recession, itch, and severe acne. Which means you could go bald quicker than normal. This is known as a hyperandrogenic reaction. It's very rare though.

I would avoid taking finasteride until you are definitely finished with puberty. When you are 18 years of age, it is probably safe then.

To avoid confusion with minoxidil, simply go to your local drugstore or retail store, walk to the shampoo aisle, and look for "Rogaine" or generic 5% minoxidil. Then start applying it twice a day to your scalp.
