I actually made a thread here several months ago and decided to get myself checked out.

Turns out I had hypothyroidism and some seborrhea. Problem is, that even after having taken the medicine for at least 4 months now,
having used ketoconazol shampoos and other products, I'm just not seeing any improvement in my hair.

I've been dealing with this since I was 12 and I just started paying attention a couple years ago when it became really noticeable,
it's really wearing me down...

So, if anyone has any idea of what it could cause it, or any way to help me. Please, do reply.

Thanks

I saw your pictures on the other post (U have just turn't 16 right ?), and I doesn't look like typical Male pattern baldness, It's VERY unusual for male pattern baldness to start on the crown at age 15, it's usually the temples that would go IF you got male pattern baldness that young.

Did they give to tablets to treat the thyroid problem ? that can cause scalp hair loss as well as outer eye brow thinning.

You would need to take the thyroid hormone replacement tablets for your thyroid problem for life not just a "few months" and that is why it seems like it's not working

Here is the evidence from NHS UK website : Treatment for an under active thyroid involves taking daily hormone replacement tablets, called levothyroxine, to raise your thyroxine levels. You'll usually need treatment for the rest of your life. However, with proper treatment, you should be able to lead a normal, healthy life.

Thank you for responding.

Yes, I have been taking levothyroxine and I've been treating my seborrhea consistently everyday. I did notice my eyebrows falling out too and my hair seems to be thinning everywhere and not just the crown, the hair on the back seems to be covering the ones in the front making it seems that just the crown is affected.
However, it's really becoming really bad, it doesn't even look like how it looked last year, right now it's like a huge mostly bald patch on the back.

It's really serious and I really doubt it's male pattern baldness considering that I've been consistently losing hair since I was 12 years old.

Or do you think that the hypothyroidism medicine actually takes a lot longer to work?

Well male pattern baldness usually effects the crown, but since you already got diagonosed with hyperthyroid then its probably that. Especially at 12 thats REALLY young.

I guess so, but there doesn't seem to be any improvement whatsoever and it's really worrying. I've been taking levothyroxine for months now, and I'm starting to wonder if there could be another cause.

Should I just continue with the medicine and see if it improves?
Supposedly, levothyroxine should have been starting to show effects by now though...

YES Of course, If you doesn't thicken up with in the next 6 months then It probably won't ever thicken up, You can speak to your GP ? Also they should be monitoring you thyroid levels every few months.

I shall continue treatment then.

Going to get myself checked out again, and will come back in a few months in case it is not resolved.

Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread :fun:
