Hi guys, i'm new here, and I wanted to have your opinion on this (I'm Brazilian, so sorry for bad english). My father isn't bald, and none of my grandfathers were neither, however, they all had receded hairlines (mature hairlines), and all of my uncles have them too. Some are more receded than others, but none of them ever had anything at the crown. I have 9 uncles from my mother's side, and 8 from my father's side, and only 1 uncle from my mother's side has diffuse thinning on the top of his head (he's 63 years old). Almost All of my uncles are already in their 60s and none of them are trully bald, however, I am only 16 and have noticed that my hairline had been receding since I was 13 years old, I mean, I'm not sure if it has already stopped receding but I can't see any difference in my hairline when i look at a picture of mine 2 years ago with my hair combed back. My father told me he also started receding at an early age, and that it stopped when it got to 1 point (his hair is very similar in texture to mine). Is it possible that my hair won't recede as much as his hair did? I'd say he's a NW3, and I'm currently a NW2, with very receded temples. (My dad's 68 years old)
Last week, I went to my barber and he told me there was no difference between my hairline 5 months ago and my hairline now, he also told me I had new hair growing around the hairline, I asked him if it wasn't miniaturizing hair and he answered no (he is bald so he probably knows how miniaturizing hairs look like). To be honest, i've ALWAYS had a lot of small baby hairs around my hairline, even when i was 11 years old i could see a lot of them.
I don't believe my hairline may have receded due to my super oily scalp or due to bad hair care (I used to exagerate a lot on the quantity of shampoo and conditioner I would apply to my hair, and most of the time I wouldn't completely remove it). I also used to sleep a lot on the right and left sides of my head. When i applied conditioner, i used to apply it at my scalp, not at the ends of my hair (i have really long hair).
I can't post pics of mine for now but i can tell you there might be no difference between my hairline when i was 14 and my hairline today, and if there is, it's really small. Also, I'd like to know if minoxidil and nizoral could slow down the maturation process if it's still happening.

It honestly might just be a "mature hairline." No guys hair line looks the same as it did when he was 10. If you're really worried about it just keep an eye on it by taking pictures of it every few months.

I can't post a picture right now, I don't have my laptop here with me, all I can tell you is that it's a NW2, and NOBODY in my family is bald, but all my 20 and 30 year old cousins have mature hairlines (most don't look bad at all), but I'm afraid mine will look terrible, like my dad's does. If you gave me your wapp It would be easier for me to send you pics.

Got to post pictures friend, 16 is pretty young and if it is true what you say and started receding at 13 then thats pretty bad. My advice picture every couple months and go see a hair specialist / dermatologist.

My barber told me those small hairs around the hairline was new growth because they weren't thinner than the rest of my hair...

This last one was 2 years ago. my hair was wet and combed, however, there was some hair covering the receded corners, but I can still notice my hairline had the same shape. Sorry for poor quality, I took a screenshot of a facebook photo and cutted it. But can you see how it's almost the same thing? (if not exactly the same).

Just to remind you, I may have had a similar hairline during my entire life, but I've only noticed how weird it's looking when my mother told me I had receded temples 1 year ago. When I look at pictures of myself from when I was 10 or 11 I notice that I've never had much hair around the temples, but I can't really tell if it's really different since I've always had really long hair. I believe it started receding at the front about 1 and a half centimeters, and then my temples receded a bit too. The temples look super receded because i've NEVER had much hair at the temples. I can't really tell if there's a difference between this year and 2 years ago...

Dont listen to barbers they are literally awfull at spotting hairloss, plus they dont want to make you feel bad so its easier for them to say everything is fine and make you happy

Plus those are some pretty bad pictures fella, take a few more pictures under different lighting and take a few wet pictures they make it easier to tell. If you are diffuse thinning than I dont think it will stop but you have a chance if it is just receding at the temples

I don't have any diffuse thinning, that's for sure, plus i don't have any family history of male pattern baldness. Also, I've noticed that those tiny hairs are getting bigger, and they never felt any finer. What im afraid of is that my mature hairline moves too far backwards and gets ugly. I'm saying this because most of my uncles are NW3s or NW2s, and NW1.5s are a minority...

Just a clarification at midnight

Is your hair considered a NW2? Is there any way to tell accurately what stage your hair is at?

When I comb it it looks like it's somewhere in between a NW1.5 and NW2. I'll be taking pictures of my hair wet and combed in a few hours. One thing I've noticed about some of my cousins is that 2 of them have had receded hairlines ever since they were 14 or 13, and one of them has a hair texture very similar to mine but nothing has changed in their hairlines until now. I don't know, I might be headed down the same path, but I don't wanna take the risk of ending up a NW3, so I need your opinion on this.

I think more pictures would be helpful. It almost seems like your sides are thinning in an diffuse unpatterned hair loss (DUPA) way. It could just be the lighting and or water though. Also yes Nizoral and Minoxidil especially combined help with hairloss. Try and speak with a dermatologist.

Probably just water, and the fact that my hair is naturally fine. Also I'm always scratching the sides of my scalp when I'm bored or doing nothing. This could be making my scalp more visible, however I'm sure I don't have DUPA. I mean, NOBODY in my family has it so it probably isn't genetic if it actually is thinning...

I don't think you have DUPA, if you did it would be like more on the top of your hair. I think your just have a little recession in your hairline that isn't too bad (it's minor). Look into Finasteride down the line, but in the meantime try using Rogaine and Nizoral. Best of luck man.

Can it help me even if my hairline is just maturing?, because there is a possibility that my hairline will become something near a NW3, but with nothing at the crown. Also, I'd rather use something else other than rogaine, since i've heard it makes your hair smell terribly... do you know of any other product?

Respectfully you may be in a position where you don't have the luxury to pick and choose treatments if you want to keep your hair. Rogaine is one of two FDA approved products. It is also pretty much the undisputed king of regrowing hair. The other being Finasteride which you are too young to touch. I use Rogaine Foam everyday, If someone were to put their nose in my hair they would smell a bit of alcohol but it's nothing overpowering.

Unfortunately I let my hairloss go for a while before doing anything about it. I noticed good Regrowth with Rogaine. I'm losing some ground lately, but I'm still above baseline when I started Rogaine + Nizoral (like 7 months ago). So at your age you should be able to maintain well until your old enough to make your decision about Finasteride or hopefully something better and safer by then.

I think youre fine from those wet pics, keep an eye on it and if you see any diffuse thinning in the future jump on finasteride
