15 months and quitting finasteride

So I'm over finasteride pretty much because my hair has only gotten worse.. I started finasteride 15 months ago. When I started I noticed increased sex drive which went away, Brain fog which sort of tapered off, tiredness, etc.. I took finasteride because I noticed that the right side of my hairline started to recede. The left side was always lower though and didn't have an issue with. Well, at the one year mark, I had a big shed and i never had a shed from finasteride before. During the shed, I got these sore spots on my left hairline, burning feeling/itching, and the left side of my hairline and behind it thinned and receded. I still have burning pain along the hairline and it feels bruised.. I had to stop minoxidil which I was on as well (didn't grow any hair from it) because it was making the burning worse.

Now I'm still shedding and it's been 4 months. My hair quality is garbage as well. Also, I started getting really oily hair and pimples along my hairline as the shed calmed down. At the beginning of the shed, I did experience a spike in my libido so this could be reflex hyperandrogencity.

I'm seeing an endocrinologist today and I can already say she is going to tell me to quit the drug because two dermatologists and my primary already did.

Hopefully the hair I lost grows back to an extent because it seems like I got Telogen Effluvium from finasteride.

If anyone has experienced this, can I hear a similar story And possibly the outcome?

that's pretty weird man. I have those same exact things the bruising feeling, the burning along my hairline, hairline is getting really oily. I even have some of the oily skin and dark rings under my eyes that minoxidil gives you. The weird thing is I haven't tried these drugs at all. It's like my body is trying to fight hair loss on it's own or something :p

Yea, I feel like my body is attacking my hair.. It's insane. I've never felt anything like this, but you say you haven't taken finasteride? That's odd.. In 6 months I'm getting a transplant because I'm over this worrying and what not, but I keep reading stories that people get what I have from the drug and then when they quit nothing changes.. So I have no idea.

I know what you mean about attacking your hair. I also have moments where the hairline tingles in the same spot and it feels like the opposite of it being attacked. I have a **** ton of finasteride side effects without ever taking it and it just happened this year. I had a weird ed problem one day that I've never seen before. My hair has been getting greasier faster than ever. I have a random pain in my right ball sometimes and I heard a lot of people expierencing that on finasteride. Maybe my parents started sneaking me finasteride o_O. It's literally exactly how you described too the hair feels like it's getting attacked and I'll lay on it and sometimes it'll feel bruised on one side. It's much more prominent when my hair is greasy so just wash that **** good and get mild shampoos if you're going to let it sink in your scalp.

One more question; do you live in a cold/dry climate?

I live in New Jersey so this actually all happened right as winter was hitting. I was thinking that it could have been a synchronized shed from finasteride and seasonal shedding, but I really have no re growth..

Do you use minoxidil? I used that for two years but had to drop it because it was making my hair and scalp hurt more. I can say that while using minoxidil, I got increased heart rate bags under my eyes as well as wrinkles on forehead. Kind of glad I quit because I didn't really regrow anything anyway.

Nope never tried minoxidil either. I think it's a massive amount of stress/depression coupled with the weather. I'm pretty sure that freezing tempatures is hell on your hair since it's not really covered that much even if you wear hats. would you say your stressed out?

All heavy signs of baldness.

Sucks man, but some people have really sensitive follicles to androgens, and finasteride alone just isn't enough.

I hear just as many people (if not more) say finasteride did more harm than good, as I do people pushing it. However if you read the reviews on any minoxidil you can see they usually have 4.5 to 5 stars, and it's actually clinically proven to regrow hair by stimulating follicles to grow again. In the end regardless of what you do you, you will have to continue treatment for life. Nizoral+minoxidil is cheaper, safer, and more likely to work.

And even though rogaine and etc basically say "only intended for hair near the back of the head" - it works just the same. minoxidil doesn't know the difference between hair follicles in the back of your head and hair follicles in the front of your head, or even hair follicles on your face.

This just flat out aint true my friend. No one will stop male pattern baldness without finasteride or some equivalent AA. Hormones are making you bald (well maybe more complex than that... PGD2) and minoxidil cant change that. You will meet your hair destiny on nizoral/minoxidil long term without something like finasteride because finasteride is what addresses the real problem atleast from what is known so far

Nizoral+minoxidil is cheaper, safer, and more likely to work.
