.125 mg dutasteride vs. .05 mg avodart: a question of efficacy

My 3.5 year Propecia run seems to be running off the tracks, and so I may switch to dutasteride.

I see that Medical Wellness Center offers both avodart .5 mg, or dutasteride .125 mg.

They justify the alleged efficacy of .125 mg dutasteride by via what seems to be a rather dubious correlation between Proscar (5mg finasteride) and the efficacy of Propecia (1 mg finasteride).

As far as I know, Glaxo never conducted tests of dutasteride at .125 mg in either the Phase I or II trials.

Does anybody know whether .125 mg dutasteride has any claim to efficacy here?

Taking .125mg dutasteride would be equivalent to taking 1mg finasteride daily. To get the benefits of avodart (90%DHT inhibition) you need to take 0.5mg dutasteride daily.

makes sense but not proven

OK, thanks maddoc.

Now, while there's a certain logic in your assertion that .125 mg of dutasteride would equal roughly the DHT suppression gained by taking 1 mg finasteride, I don't believe that's been proven either way in tests. Or am I wrong?

Sure it has! Haven't you seen the actual data from Glaxo's dutasteride test? The doses they tested were 0.1 mg/day, 0.5 mg/day, and 2.5 mg/day. The 0.1 mg/day dose produced results (in terms of haircounts) that were virtually identical to the Proscar that was also included in the trial.
