After 10 years of taking Propecia, I was thinking to quit after reading all the new findings.
I already been taking 0,5mg a day instead of 1mg for a few months and thinking of weaning off more soon.
I'm now 34. I have kept all my hair. Hairline is a bit receded but I have kept it the same when I first noticed my hair loss at 24 and started taking Propecia. I function pretty well but things certainly could be better. I hardly can go second rounds after I ejaculate. I've also started to take the blue pill form time to time, just to be sure my erection is awesome. I'm not sure whether I really need it or is it just because I seem to be a bit of a one-down in my new relationship. As I've had sex without it around same level. Maybe it's just psychological.
My brother, who is two years older has full head of hair (without any drug) and has three children. So has my father. Maybe I never needed the drug? One of my grandfather went bald though. But I only started to have receding hairline, didn't loose anything on the crown.
I went to a doctor and had me checked completely on all levels after I had some complaints.
Turned out I have bacterial prostate infection. Darn. I was put on antibiotics for a month.
Also turns out my sperm quality is really bad. Pretty much nonexistent. Not sure now, whether it's because of the current infection or long term use of Propecia. My doctor really didn't think anything abut potential long term sideeffects of Propecia. Since now the doctor only dealt with the prostate infection problem and about writing the antibiotics prescription, I hardly had the time to ask about all the results that came in from all my tests.
So, here are my tests. Can anyone elaborate on these. As I really don't know how to read them.
FSH 6.7 (1.5 .. 12.4 U/L)
LH 3.93 (1.70 .. 8.60 U/L)
Free androgen index > 100.00 ↑ (35.00 .. 92.60 %)
Testosterone 22.49 (11.40 .. 27.90 nmol/L)
Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) 20.90 (18.30 .. 54.10 nmol/L)
Oestradiol 121.8 (< 223.0 pmol/L)
T pallidum Ab Negative
I already know at least the free androgen index is not really normal...
I'm otherwise in pretty good shape.
