The other day i went to the dermatologist, and he said that it's ok to take half a proscar tablet every second day, instead of 1 propecia tablet. So for all your monkey scare mongerers out there, you have NOW herd it from a qualified dermatologist(well from me who was told by a derm)

For those that don't know in australia you have to be a doctor(which takes 6 years) and then study another 5 years to be become a dermatologist. This is someone with 11years experiance in medicine! which is better than a trichologist who doesnt even have a medical degree and is basically a retard dispensing bullshit.

I am glad that I saw this. Gonna Win (and his/her dermatologist) is absolutely right. The half-life of finasteride is sufficiently long enough so that one can take 1/2 Proscar every other day and be fine. Actually, it is probably the preferred method over quartering the Proscar and taking it every day in that it is easier to get consistent doseages by only splitting that "apple" shaped pill in half.

That sounds good taking 1/2 proscar every second day with the same effectiveness as taking it every day. The bonus is the side effects are even less!!! Thats what I like!

I've been told the exact same thing by well-known dermatologists in the U.S. If you really want, you can scour my old posts and find names.

I had a consultation with Dr Jerry Wong of Hasson and Wong and he prescribed me 1/4 proscar every other day - been taking it for 6 weeks now and no side effects - too early to tell what it's doing for my hair but I have noticed some increased shedding and that some of the hairs shed are thicker and more pigmented at the root.

So I'm taking half the dose discussed here in effect, 1.25 mg every 48 hours - finasteride has a long half life and dosages as low as 0.2mg have been found in clinical trials to be effective. I'm wondering if you're all using more proscar than you need and therefore increase the risk of sides?

Anyone care to comment?

To be honest, I'd stick with the dosage Merck decided was best, which is 1 mg/day and not less. While finasteride has a long half-life, it builds up slowly in the system. And in clinical trials 0.625 mg has been shown to block less DHT than 1.0 mg. Not by a big margin, but a difference nonetheless. I don't think we know enough about how exactly variations in dosage effect DHT levels and how this plays in the grand scheme of hair loss. To be on the safe side, I would just take at least 1.0 mg/day.

Take everything your Derm tells you with a pinch of Propecia.
My derm looked at my scalp and literally said 'thats life, nothing can be done about it, goodbye.'
