If one was trying to avoid sexual side effects, would 0.5mg be enough to make a difference? Someone told me that if you are going to get sides, you are going to get sides, doesn't matter if it's 0.5mg or 1mg. What do you think?

I would first start out with just 1mg and see if you get sides. If you do, then you can try and lower the dosage. I got sides on 1mg and when I started up again on .5mg, I had no sides.

I used 0.25 mg every day for a while. Although it took longer to hit the bottom, the side effects were just as bad as with 1 mg a day.

People seem to react differently to the drug. Do you think taking 0.5mg every other day is better than taking 0.25mg every day, in regards to the sides??

There is no good reason not to start at 1 mg. It's all a bunch of hooey pseudoscience on the ".25 is JUST AS GOOD". The study people are talking about when they tell you this says that over a longer length of time, finasteride seems to work almost as well.

Anecdotal evidence seems to differ wildly and the study was not completely conclusive.

1mg is the preferred dose, so start somewhere around there. A lot of people like myself bought Fincar so by cutting it into fourths we started on 1.25 mg. I have had no real sides except ball ache my first week and a little bit since then (just passed the two month mark)

If your sides are too much, then you can reduce and go down. You might be like the majority of people, though, and have no side effects.
