0.5mg finasteride Once every 2 days - what do you think?

Im going to start my hair loss treatment - only thinned a bit at the front hairline and a slightly thinned patch near thje crown

Some people also skip days periodically based on the fact that finasteride suppresses DHT for up to several days and also on the old pharmacological rationale that it may help preclude any possible tendencies toward tolerance, which sometimes happens with continuous long-term use of medications.


So as im only slightly thinned, would 0.5mg of finasteride every other day be sufficient to stop further thinning/receding?

Has anyone else tried or heard reports of taking 0.5mg every other day?

- i also wash with Nizoral once a week

You should use at least 0.25 mg every day. I don't think drug tolerance is an issue with finasteride.

I don't think drug tolerance is an issue with finasteride.

I don't, either. I've read lots of studies on the use of finasteride, including some long-term ones about its use against BPH, and I've never seen any suggestion or even so much as a hint that anybody ever develops a "tolerance" to it (in the sense that the original poster means, of course).

hi Bryan,

due to the high price i had to pay for finasteride i want to make it last as long as possible,

which of these 2 would be best to follow to prevent further hair thinning/loss:

1) 0.5mg every other day
or
2) 0.25 mg every day

My guess is that 0.25 mg/day might be slightly better, if you can manage cutting it into such a small dose.
