0.5 mg finasteride

I had great success with 1mg daily of Finpecia. I had to stop due to sides, though. Anyway, I want to get back on as it did wonders for my hair. I have just 2 questions that may have already been asked, but please bear with me and answer them for me to the best of your knowledge, as I'm looking to start finasteride back up but at a smaller dose (.5 mg)

1. Is there information supporting the fact that finasteride can be as effective at 0.5mg daily but with less sides?

2. In looking to drop my dosage to 0.5mg intake daily, is it ok to take a 1mg pill every 2 days rather than cut pills in half? Is the effectiveness the exact same?

Thanks.

1. To be honest, i don't think so. In the past few days i read through a topic where a user asked wether people reduced their dosage and got less side effects. Most of them reportet to have the same side effects even on a lower dose, which sounds logical because it seems that even 0,2 mg of finasteride reduces the same amount of DHT -> high estrogenes -> side effects.

2. Not to sure about that :(

I am taking 0.5mg at the moment to get myself onto the drug, would you say this is pointless then?

No. It "may" be that it could help regarding the side effects. Who knows ;)

Btw half a pill everyday -> half the costs. :)

Costs would be the same. It's still taking 1 pill every 2 days.

He did not say that he'd take it twice a day.

Btw, don't know wether it would be that smart to take 2 times 0,5 mg per day, but not 1mg once.

There was a graph on the forum that shows .5 and 1mg can be effective for upto 48-72 hours. So, I would say taking one pill every other day may not be a bad idea. Indeed, I never take the full dose. I either take .25mg every day or .5mg every other day.

The graph I'm referring to is this one. I think the graph belongs to Bryan.

GRAPH8.GIF

The graph for 1mg finasteride is almost flat for 4-5 days. If the graph is correct, 1mg of finasteride can be effective for as long as 5 days.

To answer your question about the sides, I'm not sure how effective my treatment is but apart from reduced libido I have no sides. When I was on the full dose I had testicular pain.

The graph is actually making me think that instead of taking .25mg daily I should be taking .5mg every other day.

How did he calculate this? Can we say it's reliable? If so, we could all get away with 0.5mg?!

I presume the calculation is done with blood tests. As I said, I can not confirm the validity of the graph.

I think the picture belongs to Bryan, you should ask him where he got the graph from. It is probably from a published article. If so, that would make it a valid and peer reviewed medical study.

PS: The graph shows the DHT is 40ng/dl (whatever this measure is) for upto 48 hours on .5mg finasteride. So, theoretically you could take .5 mg finasteride every 48 hours and maintain that low level.

ali777, how has your success been with .5mg every other day?? I'm going to start taking 1mg every other day and see how it works for me.

To early to tell... I can't even remember when I started taking .5mg EOD. I guess it's been 2-3 weeks.

My libido is kinda non-existent at the moment, but that could be related to other problems as well. Apart from that I don't have any other sides.

I'm a typical sex obsessed male, but since I started taking finasteride I don't think about sex at all. It's not a problem at the moment, but if I meet someone and my libido doesn't come back, I'll quit finasteride.

PS: I also noticed that my semen :jackit: :innocent: has been getting more and more watery.

Thanks Ali.

I have been on finasteride 5 days now and my libido has gone higher! It doesn't make any sense :dunno:

Well.. some say the fact that finasteride stops your testosterone from converting into DHT ends up in increased testosterone in the blood. You might be experiencing this.

There are others in the forum that report the same effect as yours.

I think the increased testosterone early on also explains why some people get acne or pimples when first using finasteride (I know I did). That was the only side effect I had, which went away after 2 months I think.

Ignore it... It was someone pretending to be a doctor. It's probably better that you can't read it.
