0.5 Mg Does Exactly The Same As 1 Mg Of Finasteride.

So why people take 1 mg instead of 0.5? There's not even a 4% difference on the reduction of DHT.

I don't get it.

Could say the same about 1mg vs 5mg. I think it's just what the manufacturers offer.

That's not true.

There are a hundred different studies done about 5mg Finasteride (Proscar) use in prostate. There are a lot of differences among the two.

But 1 mg and 0.5...nope. It's 90% the same thing.

Serum DHT is the same but the effect on 5ar in localised tissues is actually more linear. I remember a study showing that to inhibit the same amount of DHT in the hair follicle as 1mg finasteride does in the prostate, you would need to take 50mg.
Anecdotally 0.5mg finasteride i dont even think i maintain - whilst with 1mg i slowly regrow even my hairline.

Care to elaborate on your experience? Full regime and treatment timeframe etc.?

I began finasteride in July 2018 - 1mg . Prior to this I had blood tests done for obvious reasons as it’s good to know YOUR baseline - ‘normal’ ranges mean f*** all IMO as I’ll get onto. Almost immediately I noticed a sizeable libido drop, as you would expect from inhibiting over half of the most androgenic hormone in the body. Everything else was fine though - no ED or brain fog.

Fast forward about 2 months I was finally getting through the initial ‘shed’ . At the 5-6 month mark I started regrowing a lot of hair including my hairline which was great . However, progressively my erectile quality was getting worse by the week, as was my brain fog that had developed and my libido was as good as dead.

We’re now at about jan/feb 2019 when my ED was so bad even with cialis I decided I had to at least taper down. Before doing so however I thought it would be good I got some bloods done to see what had happened hormone wise.

- estrogen up 62%
- test up 26%
- SHBG down significantly

^^^ all of these were still ‘in range’ . Thankfully I had my E tested at the start or I would never have known that my natural E is extremely bottom range so even at this point my E had only gone up to middle ish range. I got 2 doctors opinions on the changes both said it’s all fine nothing to be alarmed by - insane.

The one result that was a concern though was my prolactin - up 4x above normal range . Insanely off the charts.

Anyway ... halved the dose to 0.5mg . Within 2 weeks I am feeling MUCH better. As if I had emerged from a bubble. My libido came back relatively quickly and not long after my ED subsided as well. I still didn’t feel completely back to normal so I thought why not just drop down to 0.25mg . Within another month my libido was so high I can’t quite describe it. If anything it was unbearable.

We’re now at about June/July and my gained hair from the full dose was completely gone - I was very diffused and receded back to baseline if not worse. I was so depressed come mid July that I said to myself I had to go back on but with the new found knowledge of trying to keep my hormones closer to my norm for the sake of sides. So back on 1mg finasteride and very quickly the sides re-emerged. However it was at this time I decided I would control my prolactin using cabergoline - low dose, 0.25mg twice weekly. Within 5 weeks my prolactin was back in range (confirmed with more bloods) and amazingly my brain fog was much better, my energy levels were up, my libido was at least okay as long as I didn’t jerk off too much and my ED was basically gone. My bloods however did show that my E was still up 60 ish % . I imagine if I used some slight arimidex to get me back to normal range I would have no ED at all and my libido would be basically normal - however wouldn’t be great for hair. I’m now back on the full dose now for 2.5 months and I can see some little black hairs coming through so hopefully at the 5-6 month mark I will get the same growth . Caber is working wonders for my sides however I plan to cycle it .

I think I've been experiencing something similar to yours. Sadly I don't have baseline blood tests to compare to and it's not even working that well anymore.

So you are basically getting your sides under control while getting the positive effects of finasteride now? That's good to hear. I wish I could say the same. I've been taking ZMA in an attempt to achieve that and it did work noticeably in the first 6 months but the effects dwindled afterwards. Definitely cycle it.

dutasteride, lowering DHT, raises testosterone, it is used by bodybuilders on a par with finasteride. Testosterone will be like bodybuilders and, accordingly, you need to take 0.5 mg every 2-3 hours so that there is no growth of DHT.
