Hi guys,

How much less effective is .5 mg Avodart EOD vs. everyday?

I have a script for Avodart and have not taken it yet.

According to a couple of docs on YouTube that would be about the same effectiveness. Remember the drug builds up in your system and has a long half life. It's very likely 0.5mg a day is not necessary as long as you're keeping it topped up in your system. I don't believe there is concrete data on this though.

Taking dutasteride every day will be slightly more effective than EOD, but there isn't much difference. Taking it EOD will still be more effective than any dose of finasteride.

Eod seems fine. Dutasteride lasts quite longer in your body than Finasteride.

I was just reading about this yesterday. It sounds like 1mg EOD would be as effective as .5mg daily, but .5mg EOD would not because it's dose-dependent.

"A week after ceasing therapy, dutasteride patients still maintained their lower DHT level—a mean of 38.3 pg/mL—compared with the finasteride patients whose DHT levels climbed to a mean of 324.8 pg/mL a week after therapy ended. Overall, dutasteride maintained a 90.1% reduction for that week, compared with a 35.2% reduction for finasteride. Placebo patients experienced a negligible reduction in DHT."

"This study raised the question whether dutasteride could be taken less often than once daily. Dr. Marks responded that DHT suppression is dose-dependent. At 24 weeks, 0.01 mg/day of dutasteride produces less than a 10% reduction in DHT. At the same time point, a 0.1 mg/day dose causes about a 50% reduction in DHT. A weekly dose of dutasteride, 3.5 mg, produces a DHT of about 20 ng/mL, which is close to the level caused by a 0.5-mg daily dose."

Yes that is correct. There is essentially no difference between taking 1mg EOD and taking 0.5mg a day. But taking 0.5mg EOD will be less effective.
