1.For the past year or so, since I started to notice a lot of hair shedding (and some loss) I've also developed what my dermatologist diagnosed as Sebborheic Dermatitis or scalp Psoriasis and I just can't seem to get rid of it. It's so bad that even after showering and washing with the Nizoral my scalp still itches as I towel off (and in turn lose tons of hair on my towel/brush)
I've used Head and Shoulders, Nizoral 1% and this Fluotomide (completely misspelled but the bottle isn't near me) stuff that I was prescribed and I still haven't been able to shake it. But now I'm very worried about my hair and the possibility of male pattern baldness really hitting me hard in conjunction with all of this. Right now my hair is alright, but I do have what I believe to be some thinning in the temple are as well as some in the left crown/vertex area (above my cowlick/swirl). I've also noticed what I think could be miniaturization, but I'm really not sure. I've noticed a lot of shed hairs are shorter (my hair when pulled down goes near my mouth at the moment), and I have a lot of shorter hairs poking out at my hairline and temples.
I really want to try Propecia or some other method of "attacking" male pattern baldness before it's too late and I've lost too much, I just don't know if it's wise to do so while still battling these skin conditions.
Could it have a negative effect on the skin problems I'm also treating?
2.I developed SD after being on propecia, so I've been trying to figure out if propecia actually causes SD. Some people say their scalp began to itch more after starting finasteride along with much shedding - this is my current problem. Others say their shedding stopped, hair thickened/regrew and then 6 months later huge sheds with dandruff.
I wonder if finasteride gets the hormones under control temporarily then the body tries to counter the actions of finasteride by overproducing certain hormones thus overpowering finasteride and basically screwing up all sorts of hormones.
3.Oofah-That's exactly the stage I'm at. I'm 6 months along on Propecia and losing a lot of hair. I'm also suffering SD. From those people you were referring to about the 6 month shed; did the shed stop and hair become fuller?
4.No, it seems SD takes over and becomes somewhat uncontrollable. Suddenly sugar, starchy carbs, vinegar, fruit and nuts become the enemy more than hormones.
Antifungal supplements such as grapeseed ext, capryllic acid, probiotics; Rx such as oral diflucan, steroid shampoos and keto topicals become necesssary.
5.When I took finasteride at 1 mg/day I too came up with seborrheic dermatitis and a lot of shedding, along with side effects of tiredness and difficulty focusing. For me I had a feeling that riding it out would have made things worse. So I stopped it in its tracks. I then experimented with micro-doses. I’m now at 0.25 mg with 2 days on and 1 day off and I got the thickening I needed to significantly improve my situation. My seborrheic dermatitis has also been alleviated.
6.i was on finasteride 1mg/day for about 6 months straight, it worked really well, stopped my loss in its tracks, and thickened my hair substantially. Then out of nowhere, my hair started shedding wildly and i came down with severe SD, which I've had for many months now, I just now shaved my had which has alleviated my stress from the non-stop shedding, and I have been dousing my head with organic apple cider vinegar after taking showers and the inflammation and flaking has definately decreased. I just started taking 1/4 a pill every other day from avo's advice. Hopefully things improve.
