Minoxidil might thicken that up a bit, but tbh, I wouldn't expect any miracles at this stage.
Finasteride (Propecia) only really maintains what you have, which isn't much good at NW5.
I mean in the success stories there has been cases where finasteride and minoxidil have regrown a lot of hair - but this is only really the case if the scalp still has those scraggly hairs. If your balding area still has scraggly/diffuse hairs on top, then you might get results. If your top is slick bald, no chance.
If you have the spare money I would say there's no harm in trying treatments, but I'd also be very cautious and I wouldn't expect miracles. Maybe I'd just try minoxidil to see how well that goes.
