I’ve been on Propecia for 13 months now and it is, at best, holding what I have (NW3v). Sometimes I’m not sure it is even doing that. I’m not having any sides so I’m happy to keep on taking it. I feel in a bit of a quandary though as I feel that I need to regrow a little as well as just holding on to what I have. I have very low self-esteem and body image etc and male pattern baldness hits me hard. On days where things seem ok it does wonders for my mood, on days like today where I look in the mirror and feel I’m losing ground...well, I feel like sh*t to be honest.

Adding minoxodil would be the next obvious step and probably foam would be best for me as it is the least irritating. Unfortunately, I have scalp psoriasis and worry a great deal that even the foam would irritate it. Plus, psychologically I am, well... not as strong about the whole thing as I would like and would not deal at all well with any shed.

Would you risk it if you were in my shoes? Would you try some other topicals? I was thinking of Shiseido Adenogen but despite some positive feedback left on other sites sprinkled over the last 5 years (including that it is non-irritating which is very important for me) it seems it is regarded on here as snake oil.

I’ve been using nizoral for many years, I use the Ginger shampoo with piroctone olamine once or twice a week. I’m taking omega-3, curcumin, resveratrol and other supplements. Should I forget about topicals altogether? Should I just add some Beta-Sitosterol in the evening (I take Propecia in the mornings) or even jump on Dutasteride?

Please give me some feedback guys, it really does my head in trying to think of what to do for the best.

Ive never used dutasteride, so I cant comment. And to be honest, won't use it until papers have come out to say it is better than finasteride.

As you have psoriasis on the scalp, you are quite in a state in which any alcohol will irritate the skin completely. Have you tried putting some aloe vera onto the scalp after applying minoxidil? Just to tell you this will make your head look oily or slick like.

How about trying Spectral DNC lotion? I've tried it and it does'nt irritate my skin much. Just to tell you, I don't have the same skin problems are you on the scalp.

I haven't used minoxodil for years. I used it on my temples many years ago and it did add to the psoriasis problem after some time.

<sigh> I guess I will just have to try the foam and see how it goes.

I've heard a lot of bad things about spectral - lots of shedding, very irritating etc. Makes me scared to even consider that. I suppose that's why I was thinking of alternatives like Shiseido Adenogen or maybe topical spironolactone - I'd forgotten about that to be honest.

Does anyone with psoraisis or troublesome scalp have any opinions?
