It has become clear to me that most men who are taking finasteride and using minoxidil go through periods where they shed and periods where they basically lose nothing. So why is this and how can it be controlled? Here are some potential explanations of the top of my head, please discuss......
1.) This is natural as even without taking finasteride we all go through periods where more hair falls out
2.) The shed is caused by a slight variation either in the dosage or timing in which you are taking or applying either finasteride or minoxidil.
3) The shed is caused by your body having a spike in DHT levels in which finasteride cannot counter. The follicles are attacked and lose their hair.
4) The shed is caused by a sudden drop in DHT production and the follicles that normally only contain low levels of DHT (because finasteride blocks most of it) now have no DHT and therefore start producing hairs quickly thus shedding the original hair to make room for new hairs.
How can this be controlled, assuming that one is already using the big 3.

how about:

5) Synchronization of follicles cycles:

It widely theorized that hair loss treatment can cause a mass shed. Upon treament taking effect, many unhealthy hair follicles will eject their shafts around the same time, in preperation to start growing healthier hairs. Therefore these follicles will eject those newly grown hairs at a later date at around the same time too, thus causing a "shed".

I also think #1 has alot to do with it. I think everyone goes through seasonal sheds, but as balding men who obsess over our hair, we tend to notice more than others.
