I'm just curious about the experienced posters. Have any of you considered an hair transplant? If not, then why not?

So, if money wasn't an issue, it sounds like an hair transplant might be some people's first choice.

But doesn't it leave scarring? And, won't the transplanted hairs die too?

As I understand it, the only scarring is from the strip of donar hair that heals and is covered by hair either regrowing or growing over it. And as I hear it, the hair that is transplanted is not affected by DHT.

Please, by all means, correct me if I'm wrong.

That is true

I really wonder why transplanted hairs are not affected by DHT.

It is that the hairs on the back and sides of the head are not genetically disposed to being affected by DHT? Do those hairs have some special type of enzyme or defense mechanism against DHT?

It's weird. I mean one would think that if the hair on the top of the head is affected by DHT shouldn't the rest of the head be the same way?

Does anyone know why the hair on the sides and back are not affected by male pattern baldness? it just perplexes me

My brother lost his hair in his early 20's and he got an hair transplant. His is now completely bald and tells me that the hair transplant was a big mistake becuase now that he is bald he would like to shave his head but can't becuase his scar in the back would show. Now I don't mean to say that hair transplant are always a bad idea, but for him it was very bad. I can't imagine that he had an incomptent doctor due to the fact that our Father is a Derm and deals regularly with this sh*t, but perhaps his hair loss was so rapid that it just didn't work out in the end, or perhaps in 1991-2 when he got his hair transplants were not as good as they are now. I don't know. All I know is that he shaves the transplanted hairs on the top of his head everyday because they look like transplanted hairs. Take it for what it is worth.
