Why has me hair got worse after a couple of months on finasteride?

I'm a 20 year old male. My brother started thinning very early on so I was always aware that I probably would as well. I went to a hair loss clinic about a year ago and they said that I was suffering from hairloss.

However, between then and about two months ago, my hair really looked unchanged and no one had told me that my hair looked visbily thinner. Indeed, any hairdresser that I've seen has said that my hair does not look or feel like it's thinning.

But since I started Proscar (dividing each pill into 2 or 4 and taking a piece each day) I have noticed changes in my hair (or perhaps they were always there, I don't know). I always had a sizeable crown, but now I have one of those crown partings that seems to travel around to the side of my head (the side that my crown is closest to). The thinning doesn't travel in a forward direction like most thinning crowns seem to. It looks almost like a side parting but... if it wasn't there before, I guess I should be worried.

The hair doesn't seem visibly thinner to the naked eye and I can see that the scalp is only visible where the hair parts. But still, why has my parting changed? Could proscar be making my hair worse?

With finasteride, most of the time the hair gets worse then recovers thicker than before.

Id advise putting in some more research on finasteride.

Thanks. Yeah I heard a lot about the 'better before worse' stuff, but I thought that this applied more to the hairline than the crown. Six months to a year seems to be the consensus on ho long I should be waiting for results... sigh....

Because the hair in your follicles now is thin and brittle if you have male pattern baldness. In order for thick, healthy hair to come in, those hairs must be banished from their follicles, so you'll shed a lot and it will seem to get worse. But then, the hair that replaces it (which will take a few months to grow) will be thick and strong and your hair will look a lot better.
