Hey guys. This is something I've seen brought up once or twice on this forum, but I've never seen fully explained
We always pay attention to our fathers and grandfathers, uncles and male cousins. Why not mom? From what I can tell both male pattern baldness and its female variant are caused by the same thing. Hair sensitivity to DHT. Hairloss in females is no trivial thing either. A significant amount of women have to deal with it at some point in their lives, though most of it happens during post-menopause since their production of estrogen, a hormone that promotes hair growth, significantly reduces, leaving them vulnerable to their inherent DHT sensitivity.
My question is, if your mom has hair loss, is that any indication that you, her son, will too, or does this genetic factor only have relevance to female offspring? I haven't been able to find any research related to it.
My own mom is in her 60's and has a visible amount of female pattern baldness on the top of her head. Her mother, as well as all 4 of her sisters have this as well. However, 6 of her 7 brothers have kept their hair and are nowhere near balding. They are all 60+. This seems to point to the latter explanation, but this is purely anecdotal.
