If DHT reduces as we age why do we lose hair when we get older?

Many things happen as we age that exacerbates hair loss as we age. Balding follicles are pre-determined to go bald at birth, actually probably as soon as the sperm fuses with the egg. You have hair follicles that are meant to die basically.

When you reach puberty these pre-determined follicles start getting hit with WAY more hormones then they've ever seen before. DHT being the main one, and if you're susceptible to balding then DHT is going to do some damage. So every day your follicle is taking in that DHT and that DHT is doing small amounts of damage. And then more damage and then more damage. The follicle keeps getting smaller and smaller every hair cycle.

Now you're getting older, after 30 your testosterone drops about 1% a year. How much does DHT change in this time? Not much. Check this study here, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/862570. Between 20-39 year old and 60-79 year olds they found the +/- SEM for serum DHT went from 98 + 12 to 82 +/- 7. Enough to stop the balding process? Hell naw.
