Hey, can anyone explain this to me.....why do I start losing more hair after one week of using Minoxidil 2% and a month of using Nizoral?

Is this normal? If so, until when will this losing lasts? Or should I stop using them now thinking that they are not apt to me?

Please enlighten me.

Thanks

Yes, this is normal. Minoxidil may cause your scalp to initially shed many of the hairs that are in the telogen phase of growth.

I am just ending my first month of minoxidil 5% and massive loss is now subsiding. A lot less hair on the shower floor yesterday and today. I don't know how my results compare with other folks.

I notice that if I keep my hair shorter, that the shedding is less (or at least less obvious)

Everyone here who has had success with Minoxidil has gone through something similar. Even the Rogaine manual and website both say that shedding is something to be expected when beginning Minoxidil, and say that this is a sign that your follicles are receptive to the minoxidil. Stick with it, think about the length of the hair cycle, it takes 3-4 months for hair to go through a cycle meaning shed hair now will take at least 3-4 months to regrow before a user should make any snap decisions as to whether or not minoxidil is working for them. Be patient, as Dr Lee says, no pain no gain during this initial shed phase when starting minoxidil. Wait to see what the shed hairs look like after restarting and regrowing post-minoxidil before making judgements about the drug's efficacy.

Sheds are a good sign for the most part, unless the shed continues for ages and ages. Stick with it. I found i shed badly after 2 weeks after i first started minoxidil, it freaks you out, but it is a good sign.

Nah, its still early days yet, it could take up to 3 months before you have a shed, possiblly longer. I would give it at least a good 6 months and then re-evaluate.
