I'm trying to figure out if my recently noticed hair loss is hereditary, from constantly running my fingers through my hair, or a combination of both. 23 year old male, with history of hair loss.

Who do I see for this? A dermatologist?

I talked to my dermatologist before getting on male pattern baldness treatments just to make sure my hairloss could be treated with finasteride. So yeah go to a derm.

go down to the amazon and find a tribe and see their medicine man. they never go bald. they must know what to do. don't trust the fda.

Yeah, the dermatologist said earlier I can get in is October 23rd.

Any other options? Can't a regular doctor treat this type of thing?

EDIT - Nevermind, I found a couple others that can get me in earlier. Not sure I'm going to take them instead, I hate filling out paperwork.

Just post some pictures and people will tell you whether you are suffering from male pattern baldness or not. Many users here know more about hair loss than the average derm.

If I had a digital camera, I would. The woman who has been cutting my hair for 15 years noticed, and if you look closely it's visibly thinner on top from the front to the crown. It's not even noticeable to the naked eye, but appears to be heading that direction, unless something else is the cause.

Mother's father was completely bald by 22. Heard that's a bad sign. Guess I'll find out, in a month. Ugh.
