Who gets to choose, you or the Doctor?

How does the prescription process for finasteride work? Does the doctor right a prescription for finasteride and you can use it to get fincar, propecia, or proscar, or does he specifically write a prescription for a certain brand? And if the latter is the case do you have a say in which brand the Doctor writes for you?

The doctor has to be exact on the milligram.

You get to chose generic or named brand, thats it. If available.

In the UK, some docs may be willing to write a private prescription for Proscar but in my experience most specify Propecia.

You then have to order said drug from a third party, like a High St pharmacist or Boots, Pharmacy2u or Allcures. These generally don't supply generics.

When I went to collect my prescription, I was offered a generic. (I took propecia however).

He'll write it as either propecia or proscar...when you take it to the chemist, they'll usually offer you generics.
