I have white oily pieces of something or another its like dandruff but chunks of stuff and not flakes. Is this seb derm? It seems to be where im losing hair, and I dont understand what is going on. I tried tons of shampoos and a bunch of prescription medicines for seb derm but none of those helped. Anyone have anything like this or better yet anyone stopped this or fixed it? i have a hunch androgens are involved but im scared to make anything worse.
On my temples i see miniaturized hairs and as those were miniaturizing im sure there was this white flaky crap as this process happened until that spot is bare now. Is this white stuff related to male pattern baldness or something?

Are you using minoxidil? If so, how long have you been using it?

What you describe is a VERY common occurrence in the first 5 months or so of beginning a minoxidil regimen.

It's not seb derm... if you had sebderm, you'd be complaining less about the flaking, and instead you'd be complaining about some fairly significant itching, pain, and irritation.

If you are not using minoxidil, and don't have significant itching, pain, and irritation, then I would be inclined to believe that you, sir, have dandruff. This can normally be managed with an over the counter medicated shampoo. There are three main varieties; Nizoral (which uses ketoanalconahole), Head and Shoulders (which uses Zinc Pyrothine), and T/Gel (which uses Coal Tar). Try all three, they attack it in different ways. If none of them work, see a Doctor to get something stronger.

Ok. My next question is how do I get rid of it? Im losing hair because of it but I also am losing hair in a male pattern baldness type fashion very slowly as well. Saw palmetto helped me maybe I should try propecia and see if dht has something to do with it. I suspect it does, but i feel stupid changing my hormone levels because of my own theory thats probably wrong.

DHT has nothing to do with seborrheic dermatitis. I doubt you even have it as seborrheic dermatitis is usually red and not white. It's also scaly. I don't see either in your description. If you do have seborrheic dermatitis, then there's no cure. You can treat it with T-Gel or Nizoral. Dermatitis may cause hair loss if you pick at your skin.

There's a slight possiblity it could be ringworm. Look to see if you have any red lesions on your skin. Ringworm will cause hair loss. You can treat ringworm.

However, I would to say that it's probably dandruff. AFAIK, it does not cause hair loss.... unless you're picking at your skin. If it's not dandruff, you may just have some crappy gel. If it doesn't clear up after a month, you may want to see a dermatologist. ...of course, it could just be the minoxidil. In addition the the shampoos suggested already, you can try Selsun Blue, which uses selenieum sulfide.

I know its not ringworm. I also think derms are morons because I have been to 2 different ones complaining about my head itching and hairloss. They told me it was mild seb derm. Im starting to think its male pattern baldness, but that white dandruff crap has something to do with hairloss. The problem is there is almost no history of male pattern baldness in my family which makes it hard to believe.

Dandruff is sometimes called 'mild' seborrhoeic dermatitis. It's probably a bad name as dandruff is a symptom of seborrhoeic dandruff. I doubt it's causing your hairloss. Additonally after looking on webmd, it is white or yellow. The red version is nummular dermatitis. A good reason to believe in your doctors.

Did you get your hair checked for miniaturization? That should tell you if you have male pattern baldness. Your current hair loss tells me only a few things a) you have dandruff, b) you may be picking at your hair or pulling it, c) you may be losing hair due to a shed from minoxidil, d) you may be losing hair due to a prescription drug, e) you may be having an allergic reaction to minoxidil or some other topical.

treatment for dandruff is only a site away!

I'm glad you corrected yourself, because I was beginning to wonder if you knew what you were even talking about.
