Which Brand Of Ketoconazole Shampoo Is Best? Does It Matter?

I like to know does it matter what brand of ketoconazole shampoo one uses? Being in North America, is Nizoral (brand name) the one that I should buy? Is it 2% or 1% (both are available as non-prescription)? I also see that there are numerous other brands available with ketoconazole that are far more expensive because they have other ingredients. Does it matter?

I am very confused...

As long as it has the active ingredient Ketoconazole, it shouldn't matter what brand you use. The 2% strength will obviously be more powerful that the 1% strength though. I want to point out that Nizoral/ketoconazole is a very weak hair loss treatment anyway.

I too like to know. I asked my local pharmacist who said 2% ketoconazole is the highest available strength (at least where I live). Higher strength is not recommended as it may actually worsen scalp irritation rather than improving it.

Finasteride or dutasteride. Unless you're using one of these drugs, your chances of winning the long-term battle against hair loss are very slim. Minoxidil is of some benefit, but it is still much weaker than finasteride or dutasteride.

I can't speak for others, but I was referring to only treatments related to shampoo. Specifically ones with ketoconazole.

All ketoconazole shampoos are very weak as hair loss treatments. The 2% ones will be slightly stronger than the 1% ones. I'm not sure if any other strengths exist.
