finasteride (Propecia) will help maintain your hair (if it is male pattern baldness)
minoxidil will give some regrowth and will thicken your hair but will not slow or stop male pattern baldness
Nizoral will help male pattern baldness a little and keep scalp and hair healthy

dont go to a derm for male pattern baldness

I guess your Telogen Effluvium was coupled with male pattern baldness in which case it would be wize to consider the big 3: Propecia, Rogaine and Nizoral. May I remind you though that propecia is a prescription drug and I would advise you to actually see a dermatologist. Are they insensitive to the situation? Maybe if you are somewhat of a drama queen and ask for a perscription when u practically have a full head of hair. But rest assured most of the time they simply cite how the drug works, expected results and potential sides. Then you say cool stuff and u walk out there with a script. Simple as that. Then go ahead and order online if u please.

a Telogen Effluvium is not male pattern baldness, finasteride will do nothing if you don't have male pattern baldness hairloss, which Telogen Effluvium is not

though you say you have recession, so yes, get on finasteride

Telogen Effluvium
Sudden stress relate hairs loss which appears as thinning throughout the whole scalp

Telogen Effluvium occurs when sudden or severe stress causes an increase in the shedding of the hair.......However in some cases the hair loss continues until the underlying cause is fixed

Temporary hair loss can be caused by:

Child Birth
Pregnancy Termination’s
Starting or Stopping Birth Control Pills
Dieting Drug
Therapy
Severe Emotional Stress
Diabetes
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Types of sudden diffuse hair loss that continues until the cause is treated are as follows:

Thyroid Gland Malfunction
Diabetes
Anaemia
Systemic Lupus Erythematosis

Hair loss that is cause by the above underlying causes will usually continue until the underlying cause is treated

Chronic telogen effluvium is recently recognized and not uncommon.
It affects the entire scalp with no obvious cause apparent, and has a tendency to fluctuate for a period of years. The degree of shedding is usually severe in the early stages and the hair may come out in handfuls. It does not cause complete baldness and does appear to be self-limiting in the long run.

......While topical minoxidil is not proven to promote recovery of hair in telogen effluvium, this medication has a theoretical benefit and is well tolerated. Patients who are eager to play an active role in their treatment may choose to use minoxidil.

Is it possible that you’re still suffering from telogen effluvium?
