Ok i really need to add something to my Regimen , which as of right now is soley finasteride. which doesntseem to be working for me.

What works best for Maintenance?? What do you think is the best maintenance regimen you can have??

I'm really looking for maintenance + slight thickening but would be totally happy if i could just maintain. Is this even possible if finasteride. isnt working for me?? I NEED SOME GUIDANCE!!

How long have you been on finasteride?

You need to give it a year at least before deciding if its working or not.

If you've given it a fair try you could consider switching to dutasteride, or adding minoxidil, or a topical anti androgen such as spironolactone or Eucapil.

I assume you are already using Nizoral.

I've been on it for 8 months .. well just starting 8 months and yes im using nizoral 1%. I know everyone says to give it a year but i feel like i have to do something soon or its going to be too late in another 4 months at the rate its going now.

I want to stay away from dutasteride. and minoxidil for the time being although i might have to add minoxidil soon..

I guess my next step would be to add an anti-androgen if i want to maintain??

Are Eucapil and spironolactone. the only topical anti-androgens??

and they MIGHT work right? no one really seems to know

i have been on finasteride for exactly the same amount of time - almost 8 months.

My hair is definetely worse than baseline - quite a lot worse really.

it is only at the temples and hairline really, I just think expecting finasteride to stop recession is fairly optimstic to be honest.

As merck say - there is no evidence it helps with temporal loss.

sh*t! Thats the only place i'm losing it.

After the approved treatments (finasteride & minoxidil) its all really a question of trying it yourself and seeing although there are studies showing the effectiveness of spironolactone. Eucapil has a study too but IMO its much less proven than spironolactone as an antiandrogen.

RU58841 is probably the best topical anti androgen but very hard to get hold of.

Don't forget things like folligen, proxiphen-N etc.

It sucks though that we have to have FDA approval to tell if a product is legit and works or else its just a mystery and no one really seems to know

There should be an honest trustworthy site that does Product Reviews and gives a good opinion on treatments/products such as Eucapil / spironolactone/ and every other non FDA approved treatment!!

Like this site has a product review but theres only about 6 products on there and they give a short description of each. We need something that goes more indepth and talks more about products effectiveness

Any more opinions though on what to add to a finasteride. Regimen for the best maintenance???

and is it hopeless if finasteride doesnt work?!

Fallout Boy, give Eucapil a shot. I've been browsing these boards and others for well over a year, and Eucapil is the first treatment that has actually started making me speak up on these boards.

When Revivogen and spironolactone seemed to be my only "non-finasteride" options, I was none too thrilled, because I read very few positive testimonials about those topicals being enough to maintain.

When I found out I could finally get Eucapil shipped to the US (I couldn't originally, without jumping through major hoops) I got excited and immediately ordered it. I'm not looking back.

This stuff is working well for me (very little fallout and VERY unexpected hairline growth) after a month and a half, and I'm fairly confident now that, assuming I get no unexpected sides, this will be my foundation treatment for the next year. I can't even imagine how effective this stuff would be coupled with finasteride.

spironolactone ~ meh...you need to apply it twice a day, and I just haven't seen that many glowing testimonials about it.

There are a few posters here jumping on the Eucapil bandwagon, so hopefully you'll hear more from them in coming months. Unfortunately Viper seems to be having results with it, but his scalp is sensitve to topicals so he's getting an itch from it, and jimmystanley is holding off on his treatment until he can get his scalp under control.

From what I've read, though, if your scalp can take the alcohol, you have a great shot at maintaining with Eucapil.

I use it in a regimen that now includes Amashisho (very experimental!), Folligen, Nizoral, Tea Tree Oil shampoo, and I'm slowly eliminating Revivogen from the mix.

The regimen that I'm currently on has made a diffinite difference in keeping what I've got. It might not be what some would feel does the job but for me, after almost three years, I've kept it and haven't lost any more. I'm seriously looking into adding Nizoral shampoo to my regimen but need to wait apparently for a Doctor's ok and prescription.
