hey everyone , last year at this time i had really good hair, but i dyed it a couple of times and didnt really take good care of my hair and now a year later its falling off little by little and my sides are thinning a bit and you can see my scalp at times even though i have long hair.

So im seeing a dermatologist on thursday to get my scalp evaluated and for any advice from him. My GP told me that I dont DHT because shes been seeing me for a long time and said that its something thats been recent and either my hair was allergic to the dye or some other factor.

Should i ask for a Scalp Biopsy?

You should post some pcis so we can see where your at here/

well its a pretty good derm , hes been in practice for over 25 years and ive heard great things about him. Also im sure most derms are pretty knowledgeable, maybe you went to the wrong ones?

why don't you post some good, quality pictures of your current hair?

i'm sure people here will be able to tell if it's male pattern baldness or allergies

save yourself a visit to the derm

"You're going bald, get on propecia and minoxidil"

"You're going bald, it's hereditary. There's nothing you can do."

"You're going bald, it's very common. There's nothing to be upset about."

Pick your fave :)

I agree with that 100%, I went to one locally and got a consult on a hair transplant and he demoralized me with the way he treated me. Only thing he said would help me is propecia, which I think he pushed because he got kickbacks. He also paraded in a young attractive nurse. She basically did nothing but make me feel more bald as he tells her look how big his forehead is now,and how bad his hair is. Let's just say he ain't getting my business ever.Just because they're in the field don't mean they are experts per se.

"I could put you on Propecia but I´d be chemically castrating you at the same time, so I won´t"

"Enjoy life. Balding isn´t the worst that can happen. My doctor told me I would go bald when I was 15, and I´m not"

In my humble opinion, the only reason to go to a dermatologist would be to rule out other causes of baldness.

If they diagnose male pattern baldness, that is all you need from them. They have then ruled out a variety of conditions, be it thyroid or otherwise, that would not respond to to regular hair loss treatments.

That is all.

From that point onward, this forum is your best source for information on which treatments are effective, harmful etc. You have to educate yourself to be able to best treat yourself.

Also, use the search function.

What do you think you have? Done any research on your symptoms other than hair loss?

If it is some other disease or condition making your hair fall out you will almost certainly have other symptoms.

thats pretty much why i wanna get a expert opinion on this cuz i really dont have a clue. My GP doctor said that she saw hair growth and that i should stop stressing out but i obviously dont know and wanna go the safe route and get a visit by the Dermatologist. ive done a quite good amount of research but i cant really find anything.

what do you think? see i dont really feel any other symptoms, i had lice and just itcy scalp but thats it.

If there are no other symptoms, then it is almost certainly male pattern baldness.

A doctor is going to ask you what symptoms you have, if you say 'none, just hairloss', then that will basically be the end of the consultation.

If you press them, then there is a small chance they'll order a scalp biopsy to rule out other conditions. This will hurt and involves stitches, it will also leave a small scar.

If you have no symptoms other than hair loss, why do you think you have something other than male pattern baldness? Loss of hair from chemicals would tend to happen suddenly, then grow back. male pattern baldness can and often does happen very fast.

You wouldn't be the first to see a lot of loss in seven months. Moreover it can take a long time before you actually notice the loss, you may have been losing your hair for years without realising.

he said that since this is happening from returning from vacation hes leaning towards telogen effluivum but IDK ANYMORE. its all i think about and im in college and its kiling me. i have long hair so no one could even guess and idk. my sister/friends are saying im stupid and losing my mind but idk really .

im leaning towards that my hair got damaged as sh*t over there and im thinkin bout just cutting it all and getting short hair but i look so awful with short hair cuz i have bigger ears.

You should be jumping for joy if it is Telogen Effluvium, because it may well grow back. The rest of us with male pattern baldness have no such luck.
