What to do when minoxidil isn't an option

So here's my situation.

I've used Rogaine 5% for about 8 months 2 years ago starting March 2008. No side effects. After 6 months I started to use it on a wet scalp hoping that it'd improve absorption. 2 months after that I started getting rapid heartbeats and some dizziness, plus I was getting white flakes on my scalp so I decided not to use it anymore. I discontinued minoxidil with no noticeable effects to my hair even now. No change.

Right after that, in November of 2008 I started using finasteride. 1.25mg per day for a year, Nizoral shampoo, etc., and it's been a year and a month and I haven't seen any improvements. My hairline has been going through changes but I don't think its stabilized enough to make a judgement on whether or not it's a success. But my most troubled area is crown and that hasn't improved. So I thought I should go back to minoxidil.

To avoid using any formulation with PPG, I decided to try Dr. Lee's minoxidil. I emailed him for a consultation and described what my regimen was and why I changed, etc., and he told me that I shouldn't use any minoxidil based treatments as it could be bad for my heart.

So. What should I do?

I had bad dizziness and headaches when I started using minoxidil. It lasted around 2 weeks. I decreased the amount of minoxidil for a month and then slowly increased to 1ml a day. (Im using it only at night). Dizziness and headaches stopped when I decreased it.
You said that you were applying it on a wet scalp. That can be the reason why you get side effects. Try to decrease amount of minoxidil and then after around 2 weeks slowly increase it to 1ml. Sometimes your bodies have to adjust to the new drugs.
Do not apply it on the wet scalp.

But there are other options for regrow like Prox-N or Tricomin.

I'd agree with rcom really.

I wouldn't say avoid Minoxidil completely, Dr Lee is covering his *** without saying his product is in any way inferior so I'd take his recomendation with a pinch of salt. Actually don't- sat's bad for your heart.

Seriously though, go for a 1/2 dose like rcom said, or even drop to 2% and build up gradually from there, and definitely don't use anything like Nanosomal Minoxidil, a Scalproller, or a wet scalp.

If you're heart is changed that easily, you might want to include some regular excercise- not being condescending but I have an irregular heart rate anyway, which gets a lot worse if I don't excercise regualrly.
