Short story - I've been on Propecia for one year. I'm 50, and wish I had started even 5 years ago when the hair was thicker from crown to front - especially at the front. Anyway, what's done is done. I don't see any new hairs (or can't really tell), but one thing for sure is that the shedding stopped after about 3 months on Propecia. i've read/heard in various places, including hairlosstalk, that Propecia could take up to two years to show any progress. so, my questions are as follows:
1) Should i continue on Propecia for one more year?
2) If I start using Rogaine, will I experience a period of hair loss, 3 months, that would affect what's going on with propecia?
3) Same question for the Nizrol shampoo - will it cause shedding?
4) Based on my age, and lack of results thus far, I've got thick hair everywhere else - should I go with a transplant?
As far as my balding, the crown is pretty much almost smooth, and there is a very thin amount of hair from the crown to the front. I'd say I'm between a 4A and a 5A on the hair loss scale.
