Hi guys, I'm a new member here but I have been reading your posts for quite a while now. Thanks for all the insights you have shared. I would like to share my experience and would greatly appreciate your opinion.
I have been suffering from male pattern baldness for over ten years now. With me the male pattern baldness creeps very slowly. First it started on my temples and since about five years it attacks my crown. My crown has hair but since some time the scalp has become very visible. For me the hair loss on the crown is the worst! I can't stand to look at it, but I have been hesitant to try one (or all) of the big three. I'm afraid that things won't work and in the end get worse than when I started.
Last year, after the summer, things were bad. I was shedding heavily (100 hairs a day) and the crown was getting more and more visible. I went to see my doctor and he kind of laughed it of and basically said that I should get used to it. Because I had some dandruff he prescribed a shampoo with ketoconazole. At fist I didn't want to try it, because I had used Nizoral in the past and it made my hair look like ****. After a while I tried anyway and after a 4-6 weeks I noticed my hair becoming thicker and thicker. There was zero shedding. After about three months my crow had basically filled up again. Even my temples were filling up (although very slightly) I was ecstatic! At first I thought I was imagining the progress, but after looking at my crown in different light sources and at different angles I concluded that this was really happening. The progress continued for another two months and I was using the shampoo three times a week (only on my crown). I really thought I had found an answer to this damn male pattern baldness. About two months ago I noticed that the visibility of the scalp on the crown was coming back. Weird enough I didn't notice a lot of shedding. I seemed that the shampoo had completely lost its effect. Now I'm pretty much back were I started with the ketoconazole shampoo.
Do any of you have an idea what went wrong? Did I overdo it with three times a week? I have been using the shampoo the same way all this time. But it seems that my scalp has somehow adjusted to the ketoconazole.
