That's a 9/16" purple rod (aka orchid, lilac).
Most companies would call that a " tight wave", but some companies use 7/16" white rods for "tight wave".

The rod diameters are standardized and they come in 2 different lengths, but the length of the rod used does not affect the size of the wave, only the diameter.

Idk, I wrap the hair, i pin down the rollers to a foam head to make sure it curls as close as posdible to the base, then I do a test curl on one roller with the waving lotion and time it, then i apply to all the other rollers for the determined time, rinse out, allow to air neutraize for 24 hours, and apply the chemical neutralizer on top of that if the hair was in good condition to begin with.

Process under a shower cap etc. I angle the rollers in the direction of my natural hair growth (cowlicks etc) for added realism. No factory does that.

Of course not. I use a foam head.

The waving lotion is harsh on the hair, sure, but the neutralizer is much harsher. Oxygen does the same job of neutralizing the perm, but much slower- it takes 12-24 hours instead of 5 minutes.
Since the piece is on a foam head, I have that time to spare. So you don't even need to use a chemical neutralizer at all on a hairpiece. Since the main reason to use one would be to avoid having to wear rollers on your head for 24 hours.
I'll apply the neutralizer anyway at the end of 24 hours just to firm up the curls a little more *if the hair is in good condition* and can take it. If the hair is frazzled to begin with, i don't.
