What is "Starting early"

Everyone always says its best if you start your hair loss treatment as early as possible but I am curious what exactly kind of time frame is that. Would 3-6 months after you first notice be perfect or a year or what?

You should start when you first notice. "They" say that by the time you first notice hair loss, you've already lost 50%. Go for it now if you think you are thinning.

What do you think it means....this is a HAIR loss forum is it not? It is said that by the time you notice that you are thinning, you have probably already lost half your hair.

Hmm...I've also read that younger guys respond better to finasteride (ie under 30). I wonder why this is...I would have thought us younger guys who are balding have more aggressive male pattern baldness.

hmm. Its a tricky question.

Imagine ure 20 and notice a slight temple recession, u jump on the big 3, grow back the 1 or 2cm you lost and continue treatment indefinately... but what if your temples were not going to recede any more, you will be wasting money + messing with drugs for a long time.

I also think that a NW2 is a good mature hair style... when ure 19 u might not think it, but for 24 and above its ok ;)

this actually brings up an important question I've been meaning to ask.
Is it possible that some people only experience a certain amount of loss.....ie: mid hairline and a little at the temples then it just stops?
The reason I ask is this.....I shaved my head about 5-6 years ago, and I actually have pics. It is apparent to me now that my I was infact lossing hair. But it seems as though I haven't lost anymore, or at least not much.
Also is there anyway for a dermo or anyone to know exactly how much hair you will lose, under normal conditions?

From my personal observation of my hairline over the last 9 or so years, my hair first starts thinning first then disappearing, its been happening slowly but surely for 9 years. So when I noticed that my NW2 is starting thinning into a NW2.5 - 3 I decided to start treatment.

Im not sure if I made the right decision in my early 20s not to treat my hair loss, but I definitely need to do something about it now.

of course there are many who experience a slight recession and the hairloss is halted. but there are many who also experience mad shedding and continuted loss of hair until they realize they are gonna look like kojack unless they do something about it. there's no real way to tell except to take an educated guess and determine how strong the underlying cause of the hairloss is and proceed from that point.

What it really means to target your hairloss early, IMO, is to proceed past the denial stage that many (if not all) of us go through when they notice hairloss starts rearing its ugly head and start treatments to combat it.
