I have seen so many users including this in their regimen? From what i have understood it helps to grow hair faster?

Can anyone explain what MSM contains and how does it help grow hair faster?

MSM = Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane. No, it doesnt help in hair growth. It's just an excellent vehicle for topical products, like minoxidil, spironolactone, etc.

Shosho I think you're mistaken. It's not used as a vehicle in any of the above products. I'll go even further and say it doesn't act as a vehicle at all. Is it possible you're confusing MSM with something else?

"Methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM): a naturally occurring sulfur compound found in the body, as well as in various foods. Reviewing the website: http://www.msm.com, it states that MSM is found in milk, coffee, tea, vegetables, etc. It is sold as capsules, tablets, powders, as well as topical preparations. According to the website, MSM is supposed to maintain structural proteins, form keratin proteins which make up the hair fiber and help the immune system. "

I've been taking MSM consistantly for about three to four weeks now. If nothing else I can say that it does make your nails grow faster, well at least it does for me.
I'm a Bass player, and I need to keep my nails short all the time. Before taking MSM I had to cut my nails maybe once a week.
Now I have to cut them every 3-4 days. kind of weird.
I can't say MSM has done much for my hair though.

MSM without an oxygen atom at the sulfur atom is DMSO. DMSO is a penetration enhancer.

MSM makes my nails grow faster and makes them hard as a rock. I haven't noticed it making my hair grow faster, but it does appear to make my hair thicker and fluffier.

If you are going to take MSM make sure it has Liginisil in it. It supposedly makes it more bio-available. It's in GNC brand MSM.

Me too. Remember MSM is good for the joints also. That's what it is really touted for. It does help joint health for me. (Also remember I'm 51 years old.)
