It's just an excellent vehicle for topical products, like minoxidil, spironolactone, etc.
Shosho I think you're mistaken. It's not used as a vehicle in any of the above products. I'll go even further and say it doesn't act as a vehicle at all. Is it possible you're confusing MSM with something else?
"Methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM): a naturally occurring sulfur compound found in the body, as well as in various foods. Reviewing the website:
http://www.msm.com, it states that MSM is found in milk, coffee, tea, vegetables, etc. It is sold as capsules, tablets, powders, as well as topical preparations. According to the website, MSM is supposed to maintain structural proteins, form keratin proteins which make up the hair fiber and help the immune system. "

I've been taking MSM consistantly for about three to four weeks now. If nothing else I can say that it does make your nails grow faster, well at least it does for me.
I'm a Bass player, and I need to keep my nails short all the time. Before taking MSM I had to cut my nails maybe once a week.
Now I have to cut them every 3-4 days. kind of weird.
I can't say MSM has done much for my hair though.
